Mortal Online = Potentially the first real next gen MMO?

<Lachrymose> will there be some in-game way to keep track of things that happen in-game, for example, if the mighty traceur defeats the evil dragon, will some books record the legend of traceur?

<@HenrikNystrom> actually we inveted the knowlede book before war, if thats what your aiming for lach :)

<Drakus> Well to rephrase my question: Will players be restricted by the race they choose if say I want to be a Human and a guild mate wants to be a Half Orc and they are on different factions?

<@HenrikNystrom> Drakus, there is no restriction on how races will interact, its all up to the players to "create" those restrictions if they want to.

They still need to spend time making the models and terrain. It is a *lot* of time to make them, no matter what engine is used.

Apparently they've been making it since 2002.

They should be releasing some more lore, screenshots and a new video sometime this month.

If he doesn't regard anything since UO a "real" mmo then it will just be a nice game for pve with awful pvp just like UO ><

Hopefully they don't put their heads in the sand and take aspects from games like Dark Age of Camelot, SWG etc.. so there is some form of end game beyond adding new encounters and a pvp ruleset (this does not make good pvp it simply is a lazy way of implementing it)

Since Ultima Online has had by far the best PvP in any MMO to date they are wise to follow its example.

Actually looks like age of conan copy and AOC failed and being a copy of a game who failed it is looking poor.

A real time combat system , where a skill of a player really matters <-actually this system is so bad it is unbelievable. i played AoC and to just buff someone to do combos it is stupid. no skill at all just more unnecessary arrow button bashing.

Experience True life first person view <- Oblivion online + arrow key bashing ? no it will not work and hundreds of people in a one field i doubt it will be something to go for.

There is still no good mmo with good graphics. and graphics is not everything.

AoC has superb graphics even in dx9 just amazing how the water looks and etc.. but it such a bad game.

First fail. This is a UO clone. Nothing like AoC.

Where does is say key press combo bashing?

Actually that style of game play first person that is, would work better then 3rd person. If you don't like it, carry on playing your themeparks.

correction, dark age of camelot had the best pvp in any mmo to date
shame they ruined it somewhat with the expansions

If you take off the rose tinted glasses UO pvp was not all that amazing

You sound like someone who was res-killed way too many times.... :p

Sounded interesting until he said it was first person.

Have to admit i kind of glossed over that part but the more i think about it the more hard to swallow the whole idea gets.
MMO to me is all about your character... if you cant see your character..

Hmm i think there is too many noobs posting in this thread that know nothing about UO and have read nothing about Mortal online.

Please do some homework then post something worth reading.

:P

you sound like someone who has never played daoc for any prolongued amount of time

UO had one of the best pvp systems for its time and it is still good today, but its is not as good (imo) as daoc
While i am not young enough to play UO in its hayday so i can't say what it was like then. I have played the small number of servers(shards?) that have been kept alive by various communities and to be honest i just found the group play plain dull in comparison.
While i can see why it was fun, compared to what is available today its hardly the top of the pile

No doubt the purists will come in and go "you don't know anything about uo", you have never played real pvp, blah blah boo hoo after all everyone else is wrong unless we conform to their opinions

Edit: point proven above

When did i say anything about playing DAOC? [insert rolly eyes to hide my insecurities here]

Making such statements such as "correction, dark age of camelot had the best pvp in any mmo to date" and "awful pvp just like UO" is kinda putting yourself on a platform asking to be shot at. Dont be shocked when people do.

To go as far as to say any game offers the best PvP of any MMO ever is...? Not quite sure you can do that. I don't think there is one MMO that really stands out above the rest for any major reason.

The best mechanics in theory? Probably UO. The best mechanics in practice? Probably DAOC. The best "could have been"? Lineage 2. The best in scale? EVE Online. The best underdog? Shadowbane. The best for fun? PreCU SWG. The overall best? Hmmm, sorry there is not one!

At the end of the day everyone likes different things and there can be no one true winner.

Obviously UO is the one true winner.
