age of conan question please

I played it for about 3 weeks every night from end May / start June, really enjoyed it until quests started drying up around lvl50-ish and I got bored. I'm still paying my subscription for it, will need to check it out again sometime, maybe a different server/class.

It was my first taste of MMO, I bought WoW a month or two ago and have been playing that instead.

however when its stuff like "0.12+ Defence from arrows fired over a hedge", it kinda confused me!

LOL :D

The game does have its good points, even lots of potential. But Funcom have lost the faith of too many players now i feel, which is sad because all the ideas for the game are fantastic, and it should have been very pvp focused, but imo it was released a LONG time before it was ready.... hell, it's not even ready for release now really....

One thing i will say though. I spent a long time on Wow and made friends, and i know the game very well...

but games like Lord of the Rings online, and AoC, have a much more mature player base.

I know wow has mature people too, but it is also full of morons.

And it has such a hold over some people, that they take the game so serious, that any little silly thing you do, you never hear the last of it

You should take a peek at wow, i'd recommend the stormreaver server, never ganked (i.e killed in a cowardly manor) from 1-55.

Anyways player versus player is more of a server option, kinda like team damage in css. Still have a manily focused PvE auidence however you "spin it" because lets face it that's what the game is made to do. Warhammer online (never played) and dark age of camalot (never played) are more the types of PVP orientated games.

The PvP in AOC is top notch. You clearly are lacking clue. Stop being a WoW fan boy for a minute and realise its a mediocre game that is just has easy access and appeal for the lowest common denominator.

The big PvP update for AoC is scheduled for release next tuesday or wednesday. Introducing a new Pvp ranking and lvling system as well as rewards and PvP gear.

Itemisation still needs a bit of tweaking but it is easy enough to understand just different to what most ppl are used to.

Hopefully this PvP patch will fix the issues with seige warfare as the few seiges i have done in AoC were immense! Anyone who remembers RvR in DAOC will know what im talking about and AoC is going in a similar direction :)

Im still playing and still subscribing. Currently on my 3rd lvl 80 char whereas WoW only held my intrest up to about 55 =/

Whilst I've played and enjoyed both games (AoC only up till a level somewhere in the 40s), the fact that you're already onto your 3rd level 80 character doesn't say a great deal about character development at the level cap.

i thought i would revist this thread i started as i been playing AOC for several days now.
just want to say i think this is a brilliant game and cant understand the criticism this game gets?
My only Criticism with the game is im running a high spec video card average frame rates are 60-80FPS and the game is still jerky in places obvioulsy this is some of the bugs ppl are talking about apart from that im enjoying every minute so far:)

You will enjoy it upto around level 50, thats when the quests vanish. Was good at the start, once I got to 50-60 it become a chore with endless villa grinds, and then when you hit level 80 the end game content lets it down.

he could possibly be comparing it to the fact that aoc devs are STILL wading through updates to fix pvp.

:) Coming from a pve aoc player (well used to play) who was annoyed that all the did fix was the pvp side of things.

Glad you are enjoying it mate.

Its not as bad as people are saying . The main problem is that people are so obessessed with how WoW is, they wont settle for anything less.

AoC is fun, play it casual and not too mentally rushing for lvl 80, and i think you will continue to enjoy it

AoC is a fun and polished product for the first thirty levels or so, and then it really starts to fall apart. They didn't finish it, basically.

surely there will be updates in the near future? i think they are also getting ready to release a DX10 update soon too even though the game looks good now

They do patch on a regular basis, but what drove a lot of people away was the fact that certain game systems seemed fundamentally broken. The gorgeous graphics engine, for example, just isn't designed for the large numbers of people on screen at once that you'd have in large scale sieges.

The loot itemisation was another big problem, they'd have to do a load of work to fix that (ie. level 10 items having better bonuses than lvl 30 ones, and even then the bonus is something like + 0.01 to defence.)

All the armour looked the same right the way through the game, for ages female avatars did less damage than male ones.

Crafting was a total mess.

Don't know how many of these have been fixed since I played, but that's the way it was even two months after launch, and people thought a lot of these things just weren't fixable, no matter how much they patched it.

lol, sorry i was laughing so much i was crying then..

The truth is often funny :) AOC PvP obviously isn't a patch on UO or even Eve (to a certain extent). But of modern MMO's nothing else has good pvp.
