I have stopped playing and will probably start again once the game has been patched some more and player mods turn the game into what it should have been from the start. Or maybe I sell my special edition while the game is still new and pick it up again ilater.
Well so far it runs like ass, <25fps even as low as 1440x900 in DX10 enhanced lighting mode! in order to get 30fps I need to be using medium settings.
This is so ass. My PC kicks ass and laughs in the face of game engines so I will wait until GSC patch this mother up.

Stick with it until you get out of the opening camp. I was hitting low 20s the first time I walked out of the building you wake up in and not much more than that walking around. Once you get into the swamps proper the fps is much higher and even now when I go back to the camp it's never as low as that first time. Also lighting distance and shadows seem to give a big hit if maxed out.
edit: on another note it is a ton more stable for me now than before, only once chucked back to desktop and no corrupt saves this time. where as before I'd be lucky to get 20/30 mins out of it and practically every crash resulted in corrupt saves.
I haven't started playing Clear Sky with 1.2 yet, but my brother has, he played for 7 hrs without a CTD, then had a CTD and it somehow corrupted his 3 most recent saves (even though one of these saves was half an hour before the CTD). He's tried completely reinstalling Clear Sky, but to no avail the saves all crash immediately upon loading them.
I'm gonna wait for another patch before playing. I'm desperate to play it, but I can wait till it's actually working.

This is getting annoying now, installed and it hangs on the splash screen, updated to 1.0003 and it still hangs, updated to 1.0004 and it still hangs

For me it crashes if I change the resolution, crashes to desktop on "CLIENT synchronizing", or runs incredibly bad if I make it past that bit, then crashes.
Had it two days and not actually been able to play it yet

Well, it appears im on the last mission...and do you know what, i still have the basic body armour (Leather Jacket)-(playing on Stalker Difficulty) ...this game is far too easy...although im struggling like hell on this final stage and with no way of going back its the end of the game for me. Really stupid way of doing things i think, some of the good stuff you get to sell, happens near the end, which at this point the game is on a 1 way road to the end with no way of going back, so whats the point?

I'm enjoying it. I've started again with the new patch. With the last patch 1.5.03, I found the faction wars to be bugged. You were tasked with capturing a point from Loner Stalkers, who of course are friendly to everyone. Sure, you could shoot them all and clear the point and then wait for help to arrive. But the big problem came when you were waiting for the counterattack. Loner Stalkers would toddle up and take defensive positions in your newly captured point without seeing you as hostile. Even worse, the faction with you for whom you did the job in the first place, would not recognise the Loner Stalkers as an enemy so everyone would just stand around with their fingers up their arses waiting for nothing to happen.
In order to complete the task, you would have to kill the Loner Stalkers in your base while the faction you did the job for, stood around scratching their lazy arses.
Hopefully, this bug is sorted in 1.5.04. As for performance, it runs brilliantly on my new 4870X2, 1920 res and all maxxed out. I don't know if the CTD's have been cured though because with the last version, I didn't get them until I got to Cordon, Garbage and Agroprom etc.

Just pre-purchased it through Steam, finally decided. 
It turns out that I'd not followed the story in the red forest- went wondering around killing loads of mutants and bad guys and found some really cool stuff including a 50000 rouble artifact. But it seems you are supposed to get that after you've met the forester! So I had to restart from an earlier save. Now it works by simply jumping through the anomaly, which it didn't before. Teach me not to follow the script

Terrible amount of bugs, i'm gonna uninstall now and not finish it, game is completely terrible - no way for me to progress :/
