this is probably a real dumb question, but when they say enter a few words separated by commas, do they mean this:

asaas,asasa,asasa

or

asasa, asasas, asasasa,

I have seen meta keywords written with spaces after the commas and without. I don't think it matters as I am sure the search engines are perfectly capable of stripping the spaces out. The only thing I would change from your examples is you shouldn't have a trailing comma (i.e. no comma after the last one in the list).

I believe the reason fini is suggesting that its a waste of time is that most search engine optimisation sources now say that Google doesn't look at keywords. This means it might not be worth spending hours adding them to every page of a big site, but its not going to do any harm if you do add them and even if Google doesn't read them, other search engines might.

None of the major search engines look at them - they've been pretending they don't exist since at least 2002.

EDIT: dvdbunny when can I buy you're book? Not sure what happened to that thread..

Fair enough, I'll bow to your superior knowledge as SEO is not a strong point of mine, but what's interesting to note is I just had a look at a few of the biggest sites on the net I could think of and they all still have meta keywords.

Well, they won't loose anything by keeping them there, so they just leave 'em, I guess.

I think that's more to do with their CMS' making adding keywords site-wide based on page content about as easy as ticking a box and thus - hey why not - rather than for any seo reason.

By the way if you're thinking of learning a bit about seo think about reading the seomoz blog - its one of the best.

So is he putting pretty much the contents of the Webster's dictionary into his sites keywords to promote is free crap?
