:/

I have been lumped with this for the next 3 days. It's an X3 2.0d SE. It is also one of hte most pointless vehicles I have ever had the displeasure of driving. Why the hell would anyone spend over £30k on one of these? Come to think of it why would you spend any money on one?

It's actually not that bad but it is as bland as a librarian. The steering has no feel whatsoever, the handling is terrible although it does have quite a lot of grip. The engine and gearbox combo works reasonably well but....meh.

I also feel like a complete douche perched up in the driving seat. Now I know why 4x4 drivers tint their windows.

Anyone else experienced the joys of an X3?

Whats wrong with that? I'd be well chuffed to get one of those as a loan car, gives you a unique insight into a car you'd not normally pick. More interesting than yet another 320d.

Funny isnt it. Some people hate the way you are so open in a convertible and love being high up, others cant stand being perched up in a 4x4 but love looking like a plonker in a cabrio :P

Its an "ok" car - from an objective standpoint.

Nothing *really* bad about it, nothing *really* good about it.

For my money? No thanks :)

As courtesy cars go it's pretty good but as far as being a vehicle goes, it sucks. Have you driven one of these? It's the most pointless vehicle ever. The ONLY thing it does well is put you in a perched up driving position. Everything else is just complete fail compared to the equivalent saloon.

It's the sort of car they drive in purgatory.

I wouldn't know since I don't have a convertible.

Exactly, which would be fine if it cost maybe about £15k. A specced up one of these costs nigh on £35k!

One of the family owns one. Not my cup of tea to be honest :(

is it actually four wheel drive? It certainly isn't what I'd class as a true 4x4, more of a "soft roader".

It tows jetskis and trailers nicely, my (ex) neighbour has one and can lug lots of gear about, as well as drive onto the landing slope and offload the jetski, even when its really slippery.
I'd like to see you take a pink mini over that!

I think you need to turn your nose down.. you've been given that as a courtesy car and are upset about it?

No. Like I said earlier, it's quite a good courtesy car. It's at the complete opposite end of the spectrum to my car but hey, it's better than a Vauxhall Meriva. The thread title was intended to be chuckleworthy..

My complaint is that as a car it is terrible. No, hold on. It's not terrible at all. It's mediocre to the extreme.. I also have an irrational hatred for these. I'm pretty sure the designer's brief was to make a car for women with more money than they know what to do with.

I actually don't know whether or not it is 4 wheel drive. There's no discernible way to try it on the road that I can think of.

Like a passat then? Bland beyond comprehension?

Take it off road then.

To a degree, yes. A Passat is discreet in comparison so you just blend in with every other rep mobile out there. This thing, however, sticks out like a sore thumb. I look at X3 drivers and secretly think to myself ""poor sod". Now I'm one of them :(

I have never felt this way about a car. Every time I walk out onto the balcony I flip it the bird.
