Having just bought a GTX280 for my gaming rig I was going to put my 8800GTX with Thermalright HR-03-plus and a 92mm Sharkoon on MM. I know I would only get about £80 for the lot, so I did a calculation on what it cost me.Its 11 months old and the whole lot cost me £350!
I'm going to put it in my everyday rig and sell the 8600GT from that.

Crossfire board will work for PhysX as long as you have a board with 2 PCI-E x16 slots. You dont have to have an SLI board
Thats pretty interesting (i have a x-fire board with 2 x16 slots). Is this implemented now, or will it be something for later, and does it know automatically to use the 2nd gfx card as the physx one?.

Bought my 8800 GTX on 8 November 2006 and it goes me £500, replaced it 15-Aug-08 with a 4870x2, sold it on the MM for £80.

So nearly two years of top gaming for £220 per year.

Not too bad tbh!

You would be lucky to get £60 for it now.

Sold mine for £105 2 months ago. Paid £350 for it 12 months before.

Bought a 7800GTX512 for £587 in Jan 2005. Sold it this summer for £35!

Gfx cards have the highest depreciation of any computer part.

I dont think ill even bother trying to sell my 8800gts 512 when i change cards, probably keep it as a backup card.

Its an IP35 Pro. It has 1 x PCI-E X16 slot and 1 x PCI-E X16 (x4 bandwidth) slot. Would that work?

Should do. As far as i know the drivers are out now to make it wotk with XP but if you have vista you need 2 monitors, hopefully this driver bug will be fixed this month

I've been doing a bit more reading on this PhysX stuff. It seems that I can put my now spare 8600 GT OC in my games machine alongside my new GTX280 and use that for PhysX processing.
Looking at the list of supported games I can only find 1, MOHAA Airborne that I play. Still, it might be fun trying it out.

On the nvidia site theres a few demos that you can play plus a mod for UT3 showing what physx can do.

We all know being an early adopter of PC kit is a great way to tear up £20 notes. The trick is only to buy what you need, not what you want. And if you *do* ignore this rule, you have to agree with your wallet never to look back.

Now I *need* a 4870x2 to drive three monitors. But I also need to pay about £50 for it. I think I may have to wait a while. ;-)

I'm currently selling an 8800GTX - well I've got a bid on it over at the Bay for £50 and I don't expect it will go that much higher.
It can be painful when you think of how much you've spent on these things.

I'm currently running a 4870 and I'm happy enough to hopefully not want to upgrade for some time now.

whats with these sudden influx of threads about prices dropping etc

we all know it happens - its not a big surprise!
