Pompeii...anyone been?

Take good walking shoes/boots you'll need them and a water bottle (there are plenty places you can fill it up for free as you go round). I think it was mid 30s temperatures when we were there, pretty tiring day walking round but definitely worth it.

Mount Vesuvius isn't that close ;) ........

Von (op) is part of our group for the trip next week - I was the one who has been told Mt Vesuvius is not worth the hassle and is overrated, can anyone confirm?
And we're looking to stop by Monte Cassino on the way back to Rome, I assume we won't be disappointed with that?
It looks like we'll have to drop Vesuvius as it's gonna be tight driving from Rome to visit Pompei & Cassino in one day?

Damn, awesome photo...my one didnt come out that well, was pretty hazy when I went...but yes, very hot, good call on taking lots of water. I was already sunburned from going to the ebach the day before so I spent all day wandering around with a wet flannel hanging out of the back of my cap :D

I did get a better shot from the train on the way home though...

Vesuvius probably isn't worth the effort. Long way up, to then go for a long walk...

...to come all the way down again.

We went to Pompeii some years ago and it was incredible just walking around as the Romans would have done. You can see where the shops were, where people met and hung out and get an idea of how they lived. It really is like stepping back in time.

I was in Pompeii on wednesday. Got a fair few picutres it was worth the visit but i prefered going around rome myself. Make sure you take some type of water bottle with you also. it was hitting 32 degrees last week and theres quite abit of walking to be done if you want to see it all. :)

Awesome images thanks for sharing them. They are so surreal, it almost looks like a modern town.
