I gouged his eyes out!!

no wonder why people do these things, there is no deterrent!

Are you saying because he only got 9 years you are going to go gouge someones eyes out, because you feel the punishment is low:confused:

When you commit crimes you do not think you're going to get caught, (or just don;t care) the prison sentence is not a deterant.

Tefal: what exactly was he charged with? As there are maximum sentences for most things.

This is what he pleaded to: pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for nine years

And told this: He was told he must serve at least half the sentence of nine years jail before being considered for parole.

Which I believe people are just reading it and going "omgz he's only got 4.5 years"...When in fact its just 4.5 years before he's even considered parole...If in fact he will be is a different matter :)

yes , it was this part i was commenting on

As it made no exemption for circumstances.

I can't see there being any real circumstances where gouging someones eyes out can really be considered self defence. You have to be in an overpowering position to be able to do that, some thing that really isn't compatible with a defensive act.

http://www.sentencing-guidelines.go...NG / CAUSING GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM WITH INTENT

it seems 8 years is considered the top end for stabbing 5 for glassing.

so 9 would be near to the maximum sentence possible.

not really, it's one of the ways to get out of headlocks etc although most people will let go before you do damage but with enough force it;s more than possible to permanently damage the eyes as defense.

life in prison should mean life
or at least until they are too old to have any dignity left and unable to make anything of the rest of their time on this earth

It is too shot. An eye for an eye and all :p

If he same thing happened to me I would want him to be punished more than me. Even his death would not satisfy me. He should be blinded also painfully, then we would be even. As for the punishment...

We wasn't sentenced to life :/

And justice =/= revenge.
