QUOTED :

" The Verdict

You know, I kind of like this updated little GTX 260. Where it was a 400 USD high-end graphics card two months ago, it now got a little more bite and a far lower price.

. The product at reference specification is pretty much dead on with a Radeon HD 4870, at a slightly lower price = a win.

. The BFG version is massively overclocked, performance is actually close and/or similar to the GeForce GTX 280 = a win. "

Hi there

These are on the OcUK site. We buy direct from BFG so best price and well they cost more than 4870's. :(

They do however cost the same as the standard BFG GTX 260, so no premium from BFG, just a shame BFG's prices are no so competitive.

Should start getting pricing from other manufacturers soon.

OC costs same as GTX280...:(
Where is that god damn 55nm GTX280??!!!!!

Hi there

Our GTX 280 stock were actually selling at a loss if we took into account our new re-buy.

The current stock we got a special price on and purchased it with a rate of 1.98.

Our next order was not special price and new rate of 1.78, means our new cost is over £239, which means current BFG GTX 280 price is very good and will only go up unless BFG get their act together and drop their sell price to try and compensate for dollar rate.

This is the card I've been waiting for but not at the price I've been waiting for. Whilst I realise it's not OcUK's fault they are priced as they are, I don't really want to pay a penny more than HD4870 price :(

Edit: Hang on, this thing is noticeably quicker than the 4870. Hmmmmmm..... actually....

Anandtech have reviewed it fox its still not faster than a 4870. Looking at there whole review the 4870 still looks to be slightly faster if you look at all the resolutions tested and the little graphs also. They only use 4xaa so i think the 4870 still wins even though the gap has closed. This card seems to be coming in around same price as the 4870 1gb which i seen a review of which is faster than the 512 version but not by to much.

Anandtech have reviewed a reference card though right and not the BFG MaxCore version?

I don't really want a HD4870 unless its a complete no brainer of a decision. I don't like the warranty offerings from the ATi partners for a start.

Anands is not a maxcore version but it is a 216. Looks like you will be going nv then why not just get a gtx280 and be done with it as these 216 cards don't really look to be the big answer nv was looking for. They are still really in the same situation as they were before with 8xaa the 4870 will beat it and with 4xaa they will be about on par. Whatever way you look at it the 4870 is still the superior card. Oc versions in my opinion are usually a waste of time they may win against the stock 4870 but then all you do is Oc a standard 4870/260 and get the distance lost back.

mhh the maxcore looks good now IF the maxcore can compete with 4870 prices!

as i checked in review 4870 still won in all games. just in crysis max core was close to 4870. but by saying that, the 260 was only few fps bellow 4870.

if price is right i would see people buying it as well it overclocks much better. but then again bit to late nvidia.

but at xAA 8 4870 hands down beats anything

put it that way if its 150 £ inc vat yay if not then nay

same goes to upcoming 280+

Wow that is a crazy price and at GTX280 levels... BFG need to start being a little more realistic with their pricing methinks, or people will start to favour them less as their preferred brand. Even the cheapest BFG GTX260 is still £211... over £30 more than the EVGA!

How is the 4870 a superior card to the Maxcore version of the BFG? I can't see it, can you show me?

The reason why I don't just get a 280 is because I've finished spending ridiculous amounts of money on graphics cards when there is no need. This Maxcore looks to be almost GTX280 quick (Which means quicker than an HD4870) yet it costs 210 quid... It seems almost reasonable even at the current price.

I think I'll wait to see what the other Nvidia partners offer, let prices stablise, and then make a decision. Currently with a 4870 at £170 but the Maxcore at £210 it's a bit of a difficult decision. The Maxcore appears to be indisputably the fastest card but it's also more expensive..

The Maxcore in isolation price aside looks like a great card. However I've been 'bitten' by the GTX OC thing before - buy a pre OC'd card, performs well, but all the cheaper, regular cards will OC to the same level anyway..

You do realize there are two maxcore versions, the one with decent performance is £247 on Oc.

I didn't realise this, you are joking

FWIW this is what HardOCP think:

The BFGTech GeForce GTX 260 OCX MAXCORE has upped the ante on both actual gaming performance and frame rate compared to the 4870. It is unquestionable that the BFGTech GeForce GTX 260 OCX MAXCORE can offer you a better gaming experience than the 4870, and no doubt higher benchmark scores.

Off course the maxcore version is faster it has around 70 extra on the core against a standard 4870 which should also be able to do this easy enough and as i say it will be a fair playing field again. Doing this saves you 60 pound and you then have the superior card again. Even with the overclock on the maxcore i still think at 8xaa a 4870 stock would beat it like it can a gtx280 in most games i have seen.
