What is the best COOLER for the money Q6600?

Hi guys thanks for the recommendations etc,

looked at the following as im not going to be overclocking at this stage but would like the possibility they are:

Arctic Freezer Pro 7 at 18 quid looks value for money

Zalman CNPS8000 at 30 sQUID!

What are your views, swaying towards the the Freezer Pro.
The arctic freezer is a great cooler at that price, if your only looking to overclock to 3-3.3ghz it will be more than adequate. Used to have one on my q6600 and it done the job.

Seriously, for the extra few quid, get the Xigmatek S1283 or the OCZ Vendetta 2.

Another plus is that with either heatsink, should you want to, you can replace the fan with one of your own choice. With the freezer pro, it's a proprietary fan.

Another vote for the OCZ Vendetta 2, changed my freezer pro 7 to one of these and dropped 7-6 deg in temps, my q6600 now idles at 33 (core 0; hottest) instaed of 39.

Another plus: its less noise than the freezer too :)

My Freezer 7 Pro fan was getting noisy so I just replaced it with an Akasa AK-966 Blue Aurora. Knocked a few degrees of my temps and quieter than the Freezer 7 Pro ever was due to the 120mm fan. Quite a nice package at £24.66 inc. VAT.

Was about to suggest this myself. This is a great cooler, as efficient as the Thermalright but IMO built to higher standards. Shame not many people know about it.

Just got one myself.. much better than the TT and build quality is in a different league.

Noctua or Xigmatek. Noctua has the ability as standard to work in a push-pull config which is nice. :D

I'm wondering if for similar money, the Xigmatek with a Noctua P12 fan would outperform the Noctua heatsink. May be worth a shot.

I would like to throw the Ultima 90I into the hat. Most people overlook it because of its bigger brother - the TRUE. It cools within 1-2C of the TRUE and is not as tall or heavy or costly.

Another vote for the excellent Xigmatek HDT-S1283.

hope it helps RYB :D

Hi Karl m8 thanks for the link, that database is an excellent resource.

I forgot to mention that the 1.4125v needed for 3.0Ghz stable was on a P5K that had massive vdroop (using Intel stock HS&F).

After I pencil modded the P5K and installed the Xigmatec I could get the volts down to 1.2875v for 3.0Ghz stable. Any lower and it would fail Prime :(

I'm confident I can get a higher overclock but I just don't need the extra speed yet :p

Edit: Blimey Karl I just noticed you were at the top of the database - 4.2Ghz!!! at -35c too!!

*sniffle* I was going to say how much power does that phase unit take to achieve sub-zero... but then well probably not much more probably less than my fans on the new rig
