3870 to 4850 upgrade - worth it?

I didn't realise CoD4 was also the q3 engine. Though I suspected that might be the case from the shared issues.

It isn't the Q3 engine, CoD1 was, CoD2 was a proprietry engine (IIRC), but modelled closely on the ID Software engine of the time.

CoD4 is an extension of this engine.

There was a fix for the physics/fps weirdness released in Q3 ages ago but the community reacted so badly to it that it was retracted. Kind of odd that they haven't implemented it into CoD really.

I'd rather they just fix the pathetic bullet reg in CoD4 personally ;)

Well, I realise that it isn't *the* Q3 engine... Differences are quite obvious even to the casual observer :D

My mate said there is a mod similar to pam thats on some servers that fix the problem. One of the reasons i stopped playing cod 4 was because of the bullet reg was so unpredictable. As cod 5 is on its way i don't really see them fixing the bullet reg with official patches but my mate said this other mod fixes it and is now enjoying the game again.

The only mod *like* PAM I know of is promod. This certainly doesn't fix bullet reg or physics issues.

Hardcore Mode comes close to doing these things (single shot headshot kills at last!), but IMO goes too far in its quest for real, and removes too much usefulness, like the radar.

Out of interest Paradigm,.....what screen are you using?

Unfortunately, only a Samsung 245B. (But I have had it for over a year and a half, its due for upgrade in the new year).

Yea i hate hardcore mod even though i was pretty good at it. I am not sure what the actual mod was but whatever it was he seems to think the bullet reg is much better as he stopped playing around the same time i did because of the bs bullet reg. It was the worst i seen in any game. The video on youtube was the funniest with the guy leaning standing still and the guy firing single shots on his head with different weapons and had no effect.

That's someone's own fault for buying a Phenom ;).
im not disappointed or embarrassed about having a amd phenom. amd are great. this phenon clocks well. but i only clock it when i need too, via amd overdrive. amd as some nice features. which enables .me do overclocking myself..

Regardless, I'd say that the card (4850) is scraping the bottom of the barrel for 1920x**** resolutions.
maybe for some people

but for me the 4850 at 1920x1080 is fine, runs really smooth..
