Fancy a Porsche GTi?

Like bag or rag or mag or sag or fag. The way you're supposed to pronounce it. People who say vaj are retarded.

And both Peugeot and Citroen are PSA, and BMW, Mini and Rolls Royce and are part of BMW AG, and Volvo and Ford are part of Ford, and Vauxhall, Opel, Holden are part of GM Inc, and Land Rover and Jaguar are part of the Tata Group, you don't see any owners of those marques reffering to their cars as the parent group rather than the manufacturer ;)

Oddly very few Audi owners say they drive a VAG either ;)

To be fair the VAG cars do share an awful lot of components. Some of the groups you mention also use common designs, but you can hardly compare a mini with a Rolls Royce or Land Rovers with Jags. They may share the odd component, but not an entire powertrain, suspension and floorpan.

Exactly, same chassis, same engines and a lot of the same components just all dressed up differently and different software :)

Yeah we know, but Audi owners just call their car an Audi. Why don't a lot of Skoda owners call their car a Skoda, rather than a VAG?

I want to make something clear, I never called my car a VAG Golf....ever...that's just stupid and I didn't think people even did that?

I did however refer to the group it was from i.e. when discussing VW's, Audis, Seats and Skodas as the VAG group. Like when discussing parts etc.

I've heard it a few times, like in an MPG thread when someone says their 1.8t VAG does x MPG, rather than their Octavia...

VAG is a term that can be used quite legitimately, e.g. describing an engine such as VAG 1.8T or with a comment such as all VAG cars have crap steering feel.

Describing your Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda etc as a VAG when speaking specifically about it is fail though.

I completely agree, however I find whenever my car comes up in conversation its the other party who says "ah well basically a VW ain't it" almost in a "there there its not all that bad" type way.

Becuase they feel more comfortable saying '1.8 TURBO VAG' than 'My Octavia vRS'

In a way its a bit sad they think it matters what others would think if they said Skoda.

What like the X Type and a Mondeo?

Can't say I've ever said I drive a VAG Cupra R.

I'm not ashamed its got a SEAT badge, far from it.

I will however refer to the collective as VAG, I will refer to the technologies as VAG, and I will refer to troubleshooting "VAG" cars.

This is all I've ever seen it used as also...

Just to be pedantic :

Ford EUCD Platform :

Ford Mondeo
Ford Galaxy
Ford S-Max
Volvo S80
Volvo V70
Volvo XC60
Landrover Freelander
2010 Volvo S60
2010 Jaguar Unnamed
2012 Land Rover Unnamed

Common 'odd' component you see.....;)

The Jaguar doesn't yet exist, so my statement still stands.
