hi all ive just built a new pc main specs are 8600 cpu 4870x2 gpu 4 gig of geil 8500 evo 1 64 vista.ive read on here a few times 4 gig is the sweetspot for ram and vista.i am wondering if 8 gig makes any difference with these new ram heavy cards.cheers all...

I don't think you would see much improvement. Better off saving a bit more then looking at a couple of SSDs in RAID (unless you have that already ;))

well there no game or that maxes out 4 gigs me thinks.

but if u have loads of money why not have 8 gig but then nehalem is not far from release and u will have to buy ddr3 ram new cpu etc that's if you upgrade again.

i suggest search for a thread 4gig vs 8 gig

I'd say 4 is enough, a damn good amount of ram to be running, anymore is wasted unless your really crunching large files, save the money for other upgrades tbh

thanks for that. i will stick with 4 gig then.i just wanst sure if it would be a better option for the 4870x2.not that i am nothing short of over the moon with it. i think i will skip the new chips for a year or so and maybe stick a quad core in to replace the 8600 down the line a bit when games show that thire the better option.thanks for saving me some lolly

I have 8Gb and tried to make my system use all of it, most I could make it use was 4Gb running the following in Vista 64

2 x 1080p films
COD4
Crysis
Winamp playing music
Office - 4 programs worth
10 x Internet Explorer
3 x Google Chrome
Photoshop CS3
Acrobat reader
Several Photo's
MSN x 2
Xfire
6 side bar apps
Everest

System was still stable but did slow down a bit.

More than 4Gb isnt needed I dont think lol
