Cleaning my laptop prior to sale?

Hi All,

What's the best way to clean my details from my laptop prior to sale?

I'd rather not have to wipe the whole disk, would like to do it in windows if possible.

The only way to do it properly is to wipe the disc (properly using an app like killdisk) and reinstall Windows. There is no other way that is 100% reliable or anywhere near.

Hi, what we normally do with old company laptops is wipe them with a low level format, someone would 'really' have to want the data badly to recover from that.

If a format is not an option as you say (although i recommend it) you could use something like file pulverizer (http://www.toplang.com/filepulverizer.htm), or alternately the free 'Eraser' program, which can be found here - (http://www.heidi.ie/node/6)

wipe it, then install Ubuntu on it to confuse the buyer
