Hi All,

So Microsoft have Re-Lunched there 'Ultimate Steal' Website for UK students. And as long as you qualify you can get Office Ultimate 07 for £38.95  and Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Inc SP1 for £40.00 double ...

Source: Neowin.net ... And the Link: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-uk/default.aspx?cid=137

Anyways I am just wondering what are the drawbacks of having the 'Upgrade' version? will I need to have XP installed everytime I wont to reinstall Vista?

Cheers

Office 2007 deal for uni students

Got a card with my student account offering the full Office 2007 suite for £38.95.

Only condition is that you need a uni address (.ac.uk or similar)

www.theultimatesteal.co.uk

Apologies if this is against forum rules, just thought I'd share a deal :)

EDIT - I put this in General Discussion as I got the impression it would get a better response?

Obviously because all students will just pirate it at the usual price, therefore they need to give it at stupid prices so they make 'some' sales.

not having a go, just saying that we are all to much is microsoft's own pockets, they are to dominant in the market. and there will be kids in a couple of years totally brought up on bill's software that they won't know anyother software

Fair point, then again there's always the crack copies which have found their way onto the internet and easily available for anyone.

And that hasn't already happened?

But in my opinion, OpenOffice is good but it doesn't hold a candle to Office, especially the 2007 suite.

I'd like to know this too. Have XP but would like to do a clean install instead of putting XP back on first. Just gotta wait until October 10th....

use openoffice it's free & MS don't get more of your hard earned money

By your hard earned money you obviously mean software downloaded off the NET and installed for nothing, used daily and then moaned about! ;)

office 2007 is by far and away the best office suite and openoffice is appallingly bad.

Excel alone is worth the money for Office 2007, all other spreadsheet programmes are like toys compared with Excel.

Openoffice, I would laugh if it wasn't so damn tragic!

From experience in living in halls, this is what goes on.

One lad had enterprise, which is ultimate but for companies irrc, he showed me it on the internet and it was sold heavily discounted at only £550.

His was a dodgy copy of course.

I got this last year, it's excellent if you have an ac.uk account. :D

You can also install the software on a Desktop and Laptop with a single licence, always good!

Microsoft used to give the software to students and teachers free under MSDNAA...I was given single licences for Windows 2000\XP\2003, Office XP, and one or two other titles.

If it's anything like the XP upgrade version all you need to do is stick the previous versions CD in when prompted. It reads that you have a compatable CD and lets you carry on with the installation. You don't need to install the previous version.

They didn't have Vista last year else I would have bought that instead of pay £100+ for the OEM version.:(

They still do, if your university is signed up to MSDNAA. At my particular uni the lecturers get free copies of office but students have to get their own.

Surely with the Vista Ultimate upgrade you can just use a full veriosn disc (as all versions bar one or two are on the DVD anyway) and use the key that they give you.
