Google to Buy Valve!!

For some reason everyone sees google through rose tinted glasses, most likely due to the free stuff/services they offer. In reality, behind the pretty face they're just as bad if not worse than the likes of microsoft, EA etc.

Yes but Google has *good* stuff. They can pee on me all day.

They're in it to make money like anyone else, but at least they can be seen as a reliable and useful resource compared to some companies.

Prefer Valve to stay independant, their primrary focus is pc and if they get bought that focus could be forced to shift more to consoles.

Because console players are always going to google.com, opening some google spreadsheets, and checking their google mail? On their 360?

More so for the fact that piracy is much slacker on consoles, most companies these days seem to be developing mainly for consoles with a half assed pc port. With valve their focus has always been on the pc, google could change that if they owned valve.

You can't use the piracy argument when we're talking about Steam here. I seriously doubt Google is interested in the console space - they saw Steam, they saw just how good it is, and they want a slice of the pie. It's all on the realm of PC. Google is a PC-based entity, Valve is a PC-based entity - where's all this console mumbo-jumbo coming from? It's not about games, it's about dexterity over the internet.

Missing the point award goes to...Gerard!

Steam is in my view the one thing that will save PC gaming from the depths of oblivion in the future. I guess there's a chance Google see it the same way.

PC gaming needs saving? Wha?

When i said in the future, i mean like 10/20 years down the line. It's impossible to deny that consoles are gradually eating the majority of the market share, Steam brings to the PC what makes consoles so appealing to the masses - an integrated system between all games and thus a sense of community between every title.

All in my opinion obviously :)

Of course, as long as you understand it's pure speculation about markets that have co-existed for decades. I think it's very likely they'll co-exist for many more. :)

Never going to happen. Gabe Newell isn't going to give up independence for any amount of money. So unless Google propose a radical plan that will push gaming forward, that Valve couldn't achieve on their own, it's not going to happen.

Well, I've dropped Gabe an e-mail to see if we can get some clarification to this!

He replied to my last one so fingers crossed eh ;)
