Gib - how do you pronounce it?

Ah hang on, after 30 seconds of intensive research, turns out it's from a french word - gibelotte, which explains why it's pronounced wrong.

It should be pronounced with a g, it's all France's fault :p

Its spelt gib but its referring to giblet which I thought was always pronounced 'jiblet'.

I dont care what the correct way is, it just sounds wrong to me when pronounced with a 'g'.

I thought it was pronounced "jib" since it was short for giblets.

You're correct. It is.
After looking at some of the other posts here its almost as if people don't believe mass ignorance could possibly exist!
"Everyone else i know says it that way so its gotta be right" :D

Giblet it pronounced with a J sound, that's not what we're discussing.

Well its pretty relevant. If it was referring to GIBBON then I would probably pronounce it with a soft g. Thats just me trying to make sense of it though. I realise its personal preference. :)

Gib is derived from giblet, therefore it's entirely relevant.

"Jib!" here

Well said that man.

I know we can cite definitions and explanations all day long, but just for the record:

I disagree with the origination from Quake though as I'm sure I recall some sort of reference to it in Duke 3d, specifically when placing body pieces in the level editor. No doubt Quake made it popular though.

I say Gib... as in Give It Back...

Used to think it was pronounced gib instead of jib as well.

Wonder if gif is pronounced gif or jif.

Jif? What are you on... it's pronounced Gif.

You don't say "Japhics", so why would you say "Jif"
