Gib - how do you pronounce it?

I can't believe people are still replying to this thread. The answer can be found in posts #2 and #3, or the more detailed explanation z0mbi3 just gave in post #38. There is nothing to debate. ;)

Gib is derived from giblet, therefore it's entirely relevant.

I know it's relevant, but it's not what wer'e discussing.

I think it's safe to say that everyone knows what it's derived from and what it's "supposed" to be pronounced like. I don't think anyone has any doubt that the way to say "giblet" is "jiblet". If anyone did I'd ban them on the spot for being utterly utterly stupid.

Like the 101 others... I used to say Insta-Gib, but then someone told me it's Jib, like Giblets. D'oh.

My cousins also had Commander Keen first and used to call the Pogo power-up in 4 the Pongo Stick. No idea where that extra N came from, but that was bloody hard to shake too since I heard it from them a million times before I got the game myself.

Got ya, the discussion isn't so much what the correct way of saying it is but rather how people say it regardless.

Perhaps a poll would be a good idea.

Pronounced with a hard g,

take a look at the work 'gift',

would you say

gift

or

jift?

/case

Thats right.. because EVERY word in the English language is pronounced how it sounds phonetically right? right?........

Though it is funny people still posting in this thread insisting its with a "G", regardless of whats been posted to the contrary.
No doubt the flat earth society will be dropping in shortly....

I pronounce it with a hard G, despite knowing it should be Jib.

One of my colleagues pronounces Giga(byte/hertz) like that.. freak.

who decides it's jib actually Gib as in bee gees is way better jib sounds stupid
just like lion li sounds stupid it should be lan lie

I can't believe anyone thinks it's pronounced 'Gib' :D

It's killing someone by blowing them into small piece, i.e. turning them into giblets, that's where it comes from, and giblets is pronounced jiblets, therefore it's pronounced 'jib'. As someone said above the annoucer in UT says it, and AFAIK that's where it originated.

Here's another one - how do you say URL - do you say 'you arrr elll' or 'earl'? I say 'earl'.
