Virgin Media rant

Do you have a freeview PVR? any recommendations? I hear Humax are really good, but I am a sucker for a sexy looking EPG and the screenshots I have seen of the Humax one are really really ugly. Can you get skins for them do you think?

Slightly off topic now, sorry to the thread starter :)

Don't have a PVR unfortunately as I rarely watch TV. I've heard nothing but good things about Humax as a brand though. Also check out Topfield as they do some nice boxes.

I hate VM, Supose to be on 20mb, at night its pretty close, 15-20mb, but around noon onwards it's down to around 3-5mb. Terrible service, was fine intill VM took over NTL.

And same as other people here, BT want over £100 to apparently "upgrade" the wires? and re-connect :(

Just so you know, VM didnt take over NTL. NTL:Telewest bought Virgin Mobile, and as part of the deal NTL:Telewest had to take on the virgin name.

I was told NTL was bought out by VM?

Well none the less, service has gone to pot since the name change or whatever happend. Been with them since the good old days of the free dialup disk too.

I have 20mb link, all virgin channels, V+ box, two extra boxes in other rooms, phone and anythign else i can get, comes to £90 a month for everything. Id liek it less, who wouldnt, but overall, im happy.

A leaflet came through the door offering TV:M. Phone. 10mb internet. for 16quid.

we are paying over 40 for tv:xl, 4mb, phone.

tempted to phone up and say its crap that new customers get all the bargains when weve been with telewest/virgin for over 10 yrs

I have 20MB BB, Large TV, + Phone package for £42. No problems with none of the items and although thr broadband drops a bit from 19.2mb to around 15mb at peaks times and latency goes up a little.

To go to freeview/bt would cost a fair bit, new ariel + coax to the appropriate rooms and the massive returing to BTfee as well as xDSL BB. :(

it's the sky stuff which adds it all up..

I'm looking at getting
M broad band (10M)
Xl TV (for free on demand)
Telephone (only as it works out cheaper)
V+ box
extra box
Says it's £49 a month,

The £16 offer is crap. As that does not include the landline so you have to add £11 to that price. By the time you up the tv and broadband. You might as well get the above package.

That £7.50 a month DSL is from O2\Be, they're not exactly a mickey mouse company (owned by a significant multinational - Telefonica). You can get up to 20mbit for that price if you go through one of the two O2 employees on this forum. See the Networks\Internet Connectivity section.

Never had VM drop below 12mb. Are you sure it's not where you are downloading from. The limiting factor is the other end 80% of the time.

VM is a brand owned by NTL (they bought the rights to the name from Branson when they purchased Virgin Mobile). They're the ones who monopolised the cable sector by buying Telewest etc.

No i download from usnet, capping my internet speed. Also gaming is unplayable during those times, with only me connected to the modem, over 800 ping, it's pretty bad

Just a heads up - I'm not sure how much Virgin charge for the extra box, but I've just come off the phone to them and they offered:

XL TV (free Setanta etc)
L Broadband (10Mb)
M or L Phone - didn't really pay much attention to this, probably M though.

£35/month with 12 month contract

Didn't think that was bad at all, especially as they were trying to charge us £36 a month for 10Mb broadband and the basic TV package.
