I have done, just thought i'd put the question out there to the masses as well...
thermalright true black 120 and a couple of noctuas would be sweet though!

Yep, I've been looking at the Black True as a cheaper alternative to WC. Just not sure if it would be worth it...i.e. would I get the low temps I'm looking for.

advantages of the black one:
1- it's shiney and black. pimpin' and stealthy at the same time!
2- it's got an extra clip for "push and pull" fans that the vanilla TRUE doesn't come with
3- the thermal grease is better quality (although you'll be using as5 anyway...)

performance is otherwise the same. fact is, I want to buy the black one. the sexiness of the thing and the extra clip just tips me over the edge from thinking "oh the TRUE is better than my current cooler but not by loads..." to thinking "....that thing is awesome. I NEED IT IN MY LIFE!!!".

and yes, multiple exclamation marks ARE the sign of a diseased mind.

Wouldn't it be worse at dissipating the heat as it has been painted black?*

*I may be being thick :p

Got one installed in my case a few weeks ago, it is a really nice looking piece of kit and the extra fan clip is handy. Using it with 2 1500 rpm fans in push pull on my q6600. Paid a lot less than oc price for the standard version.

Mmmm, that looks nice, tempting me he is!

From your other post in the Q6600 DB, did you ever run it at 3.4 with your Freezer Pro, and if so, can you remember the temps...just trying to get a handle on what benefits I might get by buying the BTRUE.

Ran prime95 once with the acf7 and my temps had started to hit 77'c on the two hottest cores and 72 on the other two, after 6 hours of a 9 hour run (bit scary) also on that run i was using a vcore of 1.4125 which probably didnt help temps.

Thanks, so it looks like a great improvement then. How loud are your fans?

Theyre not really to bad, theyre both arctic cooling 4 pin pwm fans, daisy chained together and powered by the cpu fan header.@ idle i have them running at 950rpm, temps of 33-31-31-27.

Looks sweet

I run a Tuniq Tower (lapped) but that Black TRUE does look sweet - there is a pretty good review on youtube by 3dgameman.

Must have been half asleep when I watched it as I didn't realise tha it had 2 fan clips.

I might try and beat it by strapping 2 fans to the outside of my Tuniq with cable ties making a push/push pull combo with the 3 fans ;)

Saw your tuniq setup jennidc in another thread, good idea btw. iirc did the lapping and extra fan help you to get your q6600 to 3.6ghz. im thinking of lapping my cooler and cpu to push my quad a bit further as well.

Hello there :)

I dont care if its black and you can strap 6 fans on it :p, is the base flat ?
Being a thermalright im surprised you had to ask, is the base flat:D, no its typical of the breed, mine isnt flat, but then ive never heard of one that was. but ill be lapping it and the cpu. thermalright coolers should come with the warning, lapping required:)
