Just a little rant! After my non fault accident (1st in 5 years of driving), I processed it all through Helphire etc so no involvement with my insurance etc. Accident was 100% his fault (ran into back of me) so there have been no issues or disputes (thankfully!)

Now, when looking for prices for various cars I've obviously been a good boy and declared this claim, as a non fault the did not affect my no claims bonus.

As a test, I thought I'd have a look at prices without the claim on, for a comparison, made for some alarming reading! I was finding average price with out the accident of ~£700, with the accident ~£950!

So in conclusion, why should I have to pay an extra £250 to insure a car just because some other numpty ran into the back of me writing my car off?:confused:

Its pure statistics ( apparently ). You are now statistically more likely to be involved in another accident. Quite why this is true is anyones guess but insurance is all about risk and numbers... they just check the numbers and act accordingly.

Its not about making sense, if insurance was about making sense and being fair they wouldnt stay in business very long i suspect.

Welcome to the rip off of insurance. Although NCB is important it is also heavily calculated on claims fault or non-fault. Using companies like Helphire will substaincially increase the claim value and as you have to declare the value of the claim push your premium even higher. I would only recommend places like Helphire if the insurance company is being an ass.

Unlucky mate, but shop around some companies are more sympathetic than others.

My non fault claim didn't add anything to my premiums with Prudential.

I think it varies from insurer to insurer, Adrian Flux only wanted an extra £10 to insure me following the claim, which makes more sense than £250 extra.

Surprisingly, the cost of the insurance is the same if I put the cost of the claim as 0 or as 10000, or any value in between so it appears to make no difference.

Some ins companies will load your premium for this, some won't. Privilege didn't charge any extra with non fault accidents declared, yes when doing a quote with Elephant they wanted quite a bit more.

I feel your pain.
My insurance has gone up for both motorcycle and car since last year when someone crashed in to me in a car park.

The thing that annoys me most is that an accident in a car affects my motorcycle premium but a claim free driving history in a car does not.

Try churchill, i'm in the same boat when a van driver destroyed my poor old escort while i was in work. Some insurance companies put the premium up 200 odd quid, didnt cost me anything with chuchill :)

Ive just had a hude argument with Admiral about this. £850 without £1070 with and this is because a lorry tyre hit me (again this is through helphire)

Makes me bloody angry it really does, there just out there to sting you. I have an american women from what i assume is an admiral american call centre trying to get my quote down but to be honest i dont think it will make any diffrence

GRRR :@

admiral are top, even with an open claim after just having an accident (at fault) they saved me £300 from what my insurance renewal was going to be with most insurance groups (swift, churchill, d-line) and thats with losing all my ncd.

what car have you got?

If you went through help hire then why mention it when looking up quotes? since you bypassed your insurer you're not obliged to mention it I would have thought.

Of course you are - it specifically asks if you've been involved in any accidents or made any claims. To pretend you've not is non disclosure!
