Ok...Ive just put together a system (spec below) & powered on for the 1st time. Things looked ok with the system checks & was prompted 2 press F1 to continue but my keyboard wouldn't respond. So I powered off & changed the keyboard. Now the system powers up but I get nothing on the screen, the on/off button just blinks at me & 1 fan has stopped working for some reason. Any ideas on how I can get the BIOS menu up again?

I'd unplug all the stuff you dont immediately need (cddrive, diskette drive etc) reset the bios switch and boot up again. Go through all your cables and make sure they're connected right, like both black wires on the motherboard power-cable are facing each other and all GFX power cables are attatched.

OK Guys tyvm for all the advice....I unplugged & replugged everything & now I'm at the point of installing windows XP...just a quick question, does it matter if I format NTFS (Quick) or just NTFS? as these r the options its giving me.

i've tried both and never had any issues with either, i tend to favour the NTFS over the NTFS quick for new drives.

Best off leaving quick for drives that've been formatted before, the standard format checks for bad sectors which you'll miss out if you only do a quick one.

:edit: Well that's what I've been told :p

Zefan, true

but also a good idea to run manufacturers tools on it (although it's a PITA to do that extra step)

Ok i'm abit confused here still. I have managed 2 put windows on but it still sometimes doesn't show any input on the screen. It has also locked up on me so Ive had 2 reboot. I wouldn't expect this from a brand new pc. Is there anything i'm missing here?

yours frustratingly :(

After a bit of testing it seems that 1 of my sticks of ram is faulty. So its all gonna go back. Once again, thanks very much to all those who responded. :D
