120,000 on a mondeo wouldnt always worry me as it probably was a motorway cruiser.

Cambelt would be my main worry...the 1.4 engine isn't too bad on a whole though. At n-reg i would be expecting some rot and 'some' work for the next mot though, if your prepared to buy it with the intention of getting 12 months out of it then fair enough...it'll weigh in as scrap for £100 next year...

a 2.0 is a lot more money on insurance than a 1.6.

Insurance companies are crooks. Especially when i paid £1400 for insurance for my first year, luckily the double whammy of turning 21 and having 1 year NCB has halved my premiums

High mileage on its own isn't a bad thing. My Focus has done 103k and apart from a few rattles here and there it's running fine. As long as it's been maintained it'll be OK.

Something with a big engine and a full service history wouldn't be a worry at 120k, but something with a flymo engine like a corsa, FSH or not, I would stay away from.
