iRacing release price details

Now ive not got an Eve-Online account taking up all my free time im going to give this a proper bash... but first i need to upgrade my 17" TFT... :(

Ive got 24" Dells for my main systems and im thinking of buying one of them for my gaming rig.. (i dont play many Windows games, hence the 17" screen)...

Im just trying to find out if 1080p (1920x1080) is a supported Resolution within iRacing? im currently looking at the Dell S2409W 24" as it seems a bargain, just dont want to get it and then not be able to race at native res.

1920x1080 appears in my options.

You'll need Big Guns to run that res if you're an AA junkie in racing games like me.

Cheers for confirming that its an option. :)
Thats a good point... ill probably need a new GFX card, i think the rest of the system will be up to the job though, dual-quad core 2.8 xeons with 10gb ram... but I doubt the 8800gt would cope well.

Not sure which GFX card is worth buying now... not really looked into them since swapping to Apple.

There is no terrible way to win, there is only winning ;)

oh I agree entirely :D and in this case it's kinda his fault for pushing his tyre's so hard :p

8800GT might cope just about, depends on AA level and whether you 'need' shadows or not,

Otherwise can't go wrong with a 4870 or GTX280 really :)

Yeah 4870 and up for that res with AA. My 4850 handles 1680*1050 with 2xAA and everything on full, but you have 30% more pixels to render.

I find the game quite heavy, I run it solid 60fps but have to drop 2 pass shadows and high detail mirror to keep it there otherwise it drops to 45 at points and quite frankly I can see that, my eyes are very sensitive.

Had a better night last night, I was shattered but thought one race would be good.

Qualified fourth which is enough, practise session before the race was erm, interesting. Several VERY near misses, one where I can't believe I kept on the black stuff tbh.

I made a comment at the start for people to take it easy, first corner what happens? You guessed it, carnage!

I get the jump on P3 but don't try and pull in front of him, looking to my right I let him pass and notice mr P5 wanting a piece and of course tapping P3 who pushes in to me JUST clipping my wheel but I get a 0x car contact and STILL keep it on the tarmac. Luck was on my side as the rest of the pack scramble around, several cars spinning, P1 or 2 drops his rears off the track and is round too.

I somehow manage to get P3 with wonky steering, with 3 corners down I am in a position to push past P2 already... he gets nervous and drops it so I collect his spot in second.

Mental first lap!

I'm glancing at F3 and see I'm just 2 seconds behind P1 and a massive 10 seconds ahead of P2.

Just another lap later and I'm all over P1, now pushing him, another half a lap and he drops the car... I collect first place with a grin on my face. Aggressive driving a hoy! :D

Then, 18 laps of me driving a wonky car with wonky steering and still managing to keep in the 1:04's (just) and taking a win with 0 incidents (incredible) and a 47 second lead to 2nd placed man.

Another crushing victory, and after the night before well bloody deserved even if I do say so myself! :)

Still, I'd rather have had some competition for a bit of a fun, but hey.

And on that point, anyone else find the damage model crazy sensitive?

Seems someone just needs to cough in the direction of your car and you have to crank on 90 degrees lock to drive it in a straight line.

I think many similar racing games are under-sensitive, giving us a false sense of security. However I do agree that a combination of iRacing programming and perhaps errors due to lag (ie the calculations may make the impact harder than it looks to us) make collisions or even nudges something to be avoided at all costs.

I'm sure this is deliberate, just like the SR penalties, to encourage 'gentlemanly' racing and less of of the BTCC-style vehicle molesting. It can -- like many features of iRacing -- be rather annoying though, I agree.

Funny you should mention "Formula Axe Murderer". When I seen the Iracing survey question suggesting "fun races" sans ratings to be run in the weeks between seasons, my first thought was "ToCA-tastic panel bashing time". Although ramming the driver's door at a hairpin doesn't have quite the same effect when it doesn't partially concuss that which passes for the victim's brain.

Is anyone in this thread using O2 as their ISP? I'm going to try and get a MAC code off Pipex on Monday, and as I'm about 150m of copper away from my local Be/O2 exchange it'd be a waste not to try 02. However solid iRacing performance would be a definite bonus.

Pipex/Tiscali were fine for my first iRacing month except around lunchtime, when I'd vanish from other people's view for a few seconds about once every two minutes. Not too dire, and easy enough to work around. But before I jump ship it'd be nice to get a little reassurance.... or warning. :-)

Thanks,
Andrew McP

I take it this has become the official iracing thread?! Just subscribed and waiting for some updates to download. Not read too much about this but in my younger years I absolutely loved anything papyrus did. I'm geussing theres now auto gears option?

The season draws to an end next week and this thread seems to have died a death... So hows everyone getting on?

Me, I've been racing the skip getting my eye in for a good showing next season. I seem to enjoy everything about the game bar the actual racing, I just keep getting hit from behind all the time, and its not like I'm that slow, started 3 races today near the front row and got taken out in them all then had to fight from pitline/back. It's annoying as I'm yet to do it to anyone since I started playing... I'll drive it off the road if it means not hitting anyone.

I'm also very disappointed basic things like flags haven't appeared yet, but tracks and cars I'll never race keep getting added. I've lost count of the times I've slowed for danger in front of me only for people to come storming past and then getting me caught up in the carnage.

I have to say that if I hadn't paid up my full year I'm wondering if I'd of actually renewed another month.

I saw that you'd been doing lots of skippy stuff, seemingly fairly well too from the lap times at least, can't get Infineon in any form down really, gonna try and get cup this week but we'll see,

I've found the racing the best bits, only started again after a holiday in the middle of last week, wasn't up to pace (LRP/Solstice) so didn't bother qualifying so I could hang back off the start and just do my own thing, had a great set of races with very few problems, including 2 races where I went from 8th on the grid to 1st, well chuffed with those ones :p

But it all depends who you're against, had some drivers who i've seen/experienced being very silly when being overtaken, or pressuring, and those guys I will even go as far as letting them past and then instantly applying pressure in the hope they make a mistake and spin out, then they're no longer my problem :p

Other drivers i've had some amazingly close racing with, where both of us are driving well and leaving each other the room when it's sensible, but not exactly giving up either.

I can understand their reluctance to release a software update in the middle of the season, BUT, if the update between seasons doesn't include yellow and blue flags for both ovals and road courses I'll be quite dissapointed, and that might affect my decision to renew, but for the moment for $13 a month, plus the 'promise' of some updates to what is already a great sim i'm fairly happy :p

Yeah hopefully we'll get some nice new goodies at the end of the season. Spent last night getting my oval SR up, just so I could get the next license on sunday, although I'm not sure why...I hate ovals.

Anyways where did everyone else go in this thread? All given up?

Still at it, racing away, and I think about to get a proper license (SR at 4.99 for over a week now).

Don't think they're bringing flags to proper tracks yet with this patch, just the "all-left" ones, and no sign of blues yet...........I find that the voice comms and a quick "OI, MUPPET!" does just as well for now.
Agree on the tracks, how can they obsess over making sure they have incestville arkansas raceway in it while there is no nordschliefe or La Sarthe or Spa? Septics can be SO insular it's not even amusing.
REALLY looking forward to the Lotus, it'll be scary biccies that thing......although useless with the current array of tracks, of which only one (maybe three) is F1 standard.

congrats on getting your SR to 4.99, not quite managed it yet, hit 4.80 at the end of last week (LRP is usually lovely and clean for me) and now down to 4.66 iirc, still plenty higher than the 3 needed for advancement, need to sort my driving out a bit for next season though :p

blue's for road courses haven't been officially announced, I'm hoping they're in there though, don't mine about the lack of yellows (although local yellows, eg no safety car, just a warning, would be nice) but blue's would be nice, but saying that it usually isn't a problem, worst i've had was two guy's on LRP who tried to 'race' me, but they were lapping in the 1:06 bracket and I'm getting more and more often into the 1:03 bracket in races, so the challenge didn't last long :p

Would love to have Spa, or Donnington, or any/all uk track for that matter, :)
for the lotus, could do Silverstone, Sebring, VIR Grand East, Laguna Seca and possibly others, considering it's not gonna be in a series till at least the next one so just over 3 months away I'm betting we'll have enough decent length/quality tracks for it, just hope it's not an A licence series, at best I'll have a C with >4.0 SR by that point (and that might be pushing it :p)

Got really busy at work and started dating a couple of women (I think I'm in season) so my iRacing's gone quiet, I have 3 months left anyway.

I think I left my ratings both on ~3.7-3.9, so I'll move up a license level... which is nice.
