So lets get this straight.... by the DVD, get **** on by EA with crippling DRM restrictions on number of installs. Not good.
Buy on Steam, get **** on by having no preload option, blatant LIES about the release date, and not be able to play the game when you want to - and also have to use a huge chunk (or all) of your allocated bandwidth, throttling your net connection for the next week.
Remind me, what would I be paying for if I bought this?

...no 'forced' vehicle sections. There are vehicle sections, but you can get out at any time and even, in the 2nd level, get into your ally's vehicle if you don't wanna walk.
Or pick up any LTV or Truck along the roadside to use instead.
