Farcry was the first game I played with physics. I spent ages manipulating barrels up to the top of steps just so I could roll them down again. Also it has the best sand under water textures I've seen in a game, certainly for the time anyway.
awful game after the first hour and a half, worst alien/monster designs i've ever seen and the a.i is appalling it shoots you in the head with a handgun from 3 miles away through an entire wood
crysis destroys it in every possible way, especially the a.i
also dont forget the all important "r_hdrrendering 7" command, that really kicks things up a notch.
How is HDR with AA now?
Last time I checked, even with a card that support hdr and aa, the game would show as 1 giant artifacted land due to it not supporting AA and HDR at once...
If I have to choose between em I'm pretty sure I prefer AA above hdr...
Quite average really, looks dated against games from the same timeframe too. (Half-Life 2)
IMO Far Cry looks better than (vanilla) HL2 when run in 64bit mode with HDR.
Although, I can see why some might prefer HL2 as it is a bit 'grittier' compared to the somewhat OTT tropics and models seen in FC. People who prefer the HL2 style could do a lot worse than try the "Cold" renderering mode in FC.
I never completed it. I got to the bit where you're escaping from the final complex and there's a big open area with dozens of mutants in it. I just kept getting cut to ribbons from miles away.
PK!
