How do you pay for your petrol ?

Reason behind the question is i've just found out that despite not holding a valid passport (it expired i'm not a terrorist) i'm apparently booking flights all over the world on my credit card  The only thing I pay for on my card is fuel as I get cash back and depending on the fuel station discount.

So this makes me wonder, how many people have switched from normal credit/debit card payments to paying cash ?

I pay by credit card, but I also make sure that a) I don't hand my card over b) that the chip & pin pad doesn't look suspect c) use pay@pump wherever possible, and d) check my statements thoroughly each week (online).

No problems here.

Nope, but it had crossed my mind. I should stop using my debit card in favour of my credit card really.

You see that's exactly what I do as I know how easy it is to get your card read without realising, i've seen it done. As for the chip and pin device looking suspect trust me if it had been compromised you'd never know just by looking at it. I also only used major brand filling stations that i've used for the last 5+ years without problem but clearly something has gone wrong somewhere.

Guess the lesson is only use your credit card and not your debit card!

I've had my card cloned in the local shell, only used the place twice :(

Usually I fill up on lpg at the local showroom/mechanics which stock it, plus I know them...
Petrol (when it's needed) is done at the local supermarket, where again I know pretty much everyone.

If I'm desperate enough/have to go somewhere else I tend to have a look at who's behind the till before I decide card or not. I've always got both as the chip on the card plays up a bit... :(

Always pay on a credit card. I use 1 CC for all my travel costs (commuting + petrol) and the limit is so low that even if the card was cloned, they wouldn't get very far ;)

Mainly on my credit card, but one local garage near me, luckily i dont use them, had been known to clone cards, the police did arrest one person for it too.

i pay by card. Couldn't be doing with having to go to the bank and taking out £100 every time I wanted to fill up (it costs me £75-£80 to fuel up.
