Ive had an appointment at the dentist booked for a while for thursday (week today) and as far as I knew my teeth were fine and I was just going for a checkup...Now all of a sudden whist brushing my teeth this morning my back molar dicided to fall apart  Now im gonna have to go in knowing ive got to get something done :(

Its not painful but god I hate teeth! I thought I looked after them quite well, but obviously not. *sigh*

Sorry for sharing but its really on my mind now .

Annoying isn't it! I now have 6 fillings (only 24!) I brush twice daily, floss once a night and use a decent mouthwash.

I cut most of the very sugary things from my diet when I was about 15, after my second filling and (other than OJ) I tend to avoid very acidic foods... yet still... one of my rear molars crumbled away a little bit the week.

Due to go to the dentist on the 25th knowing full well I have a £45 charge awiting me to reconstruct the edge of the tooth using white filling...

Annoying isn't it!!

Its fallen apart on the side of the tooth along the gym edge. Is that fillable or ...? anyone had this before?

Upper or lower?

Ive had both my upper rear molar, mine were the wisdom teeth out as they both started to crumble. Pretty straightforward and around £41 if your with a NHS practice.

Do you tend to go to work and drink cups of tea or coffee with sugar in? Or cans of fizzy drink? I suspect it's things like this that cause problems with teeth where you otherwise have good cleaning habits. Three cups of sugared coffee over an 8 hour working day, with some normal food at lunch gives plenty of time for acid erosion to occur. Maybe chew gum or take a toothbrush to work.

Yeah, they can rebuild most teeth.

I had one fall apart and they rebuilt it from very little, but it kept falling apart so was pulled out a few months ago.

I have about £1000 worth of treatment to be done over the space of about 6 months, the work started in July. Loads of money to go yet. :(

But at the end of it I'll have no falling apart teeth and none with holes in them so should be sorted for quite a while yet...I hope. :p

Indeed, the human body sucks.

My teeth suck (although i've had no fillings, just capps) my knee sucks, can't do anything agressive on it without wearing a support...and my circulation sucks, so i get random episodes of partial Reynaulds in my fingers.

My body's awesome!

Oh and I had a Meckel's diverticulum as well! Which made me collapse, amongst other things...But I shant go into that.

Something else. Does anyone eat on both sides of the mouth when they chew?

I used to but when I was a nipper my tooth started to crumble (but feared the dentist so much) so I started to eat on the oppostie side for months before going. So now after about 10 years I only ever chew on my left hand side. (current broken tooth is on the right)

I kinda vary...depends what I'm eating to be honest! :p

I drink 1 cup of strong black coffee a day (limit myself as too much caffeine makes me shake slightly!) Have never taken sugar in any of my hot drinks. I don't tend to drink fizzy drinks at all, normally either have a cup of tea, water or very very occasioanlly a sugar free variant of a fizzy drink.

TBH i think its just bad genetics, both my mum and dad have terrible teeth too and I know they are both very strict about their cleaning regime's. For example, I was missing the two smaller front incisors, like my dad, and had to have Mary-land bridges to replace them when I was in my mid teens.

Can't win :)

For the OP: They should be able to re-build the edge of your tooth, I have had it done before on another tooth (that one was already filled though and it was a weak area of the tooth left after the filling that collapsed.) If the tooth in question is already filled then its a case of removing all the old filling and just making a new, bigger one. The quality of the "shaping" will be down to how good your dentist is.

Ahh well ok. Abit less of a worry I suppose. Not up on my dentistry so as long as the tooth can be salvaged Ill be happy...

Now all I have to worry about is not agrevating it until next Thursday :( Eatings gonna be a problem me thinks...

I don't mind teeth. I'm 21 and have never had a problem or any fillings at all *munches on tin foil*

/smug

I can munch tin foil if I wan't ;) All my fillings are white emalgun (sp?) based, so no heavy metals in my mouth! (also means my fillings don't last as long, but hey-ho at least I don't have a mouth full of unsightly metal)

I've been dreading going to the dentist for ages I have a hole in my back molar the size of a large pea not to mention black staines on some of my other teeth will be going soon though because of the hole I get a large pain stopping me from chewing food on one side of my mouth

I havent gone to the dentist in years but just thought... Right, You havent gone in ages. Just get it over with and make sure everythings alright...Initially anyways...

I am in a similar position. I finally decided to go to Budapest to get the old smile makeover. Apart from being all crooked my teeth have been fine but since I booked up to go I had a little pain in my back teeth. Had a good look and the fillings there are a bit of a mess. Hopefully it won't get any worse and I can hold off to get the fillings sorted in Hungary. I go a week on Sunday. :D

I'd be interested to know how you get on. You should put up some before and after pictures. Its something I've thought of doing. How much is it going to cost you?
