Hi. i took delivery of the hyundai w240d-pva this morning, took advantage of the recent price drop. I wanted to try a PVA panel rather than a TN type.I was put off the ocuk ( digimiate) or yakura ones , didnt like the negs they had for build quality and faults etc.

I upgraded from an Ag Neovo F-419. The neovo was a PCpro winner 3 years ago for 19 inch tft ( not widescreen) . At the time of the review it was priced at £410.PcPro loved it,and gave it 6/6 stars. The neovo i had was an upgrade from a mitsubishi 22 inch crt diamondtron , which cost me a staggering £580 back in 1999 .Though good compared to other TFTs the neovo did not have the image quality or clarity of the crt mitsubishi. But i really needed a smaller footprint screen, the crt was huge.

the hyundai w240d-pva kicks the neovo in the behind. As soon as it was switched on i noticed the immense difference in colour clarity between the two panels. The colours in the pva are vastly superior. The difference is like night and day.The hyundai i have recieved has zero dead pixels. In addition the picture quality is on par with my old crt mitsubishi .

the screen real estate of the w240d-pva is huge compared to the old neovo.i was also considering the iiyama 26 inch and the ocuk 28 inch screens. However the w240d-pva is just about the right size for me as im sitting about 2 1/2 to 3 feet from the screen . 26 or 28 inch screens would have been way to big for me.

i havent tried the built in speakers.

there is 1 downside for me though. i dont especially like the glossy finish of the w240d-pva chassis .I much preferred the matt black of the neovo.

so, all things considered ,i am very glad that i upgraded .the wd40d-pva is a fantastic screen. A huge improvement over my old Ag-Neovo f-419. In addition the colour clarity of the pva panel is pretty close to the colours i was enjoying in my old mitsubishi 22inch crt.

Well worth the £300.

thanks for the constructive reply as far as " this thread is useless without pictures"

I did take some pictures on my 5 mp digital camera . of both my old and new screens. however all they really show is that 1 screen is larger than the other, so in fact the pictures are useless and add nothing to the thread ; so i didnt bother posting them.

I got one of these delivered about a month ago.

Overall I'm very happy with it. Impressive looking screen and fantastic in games. I actually really like the glossy bezel but am not a fan of the touch-sensitive buttons. There's one stuck pixel but it's so small and inoffensive I haven't done anything about it. These are minor drawbacks though.

Proptip: If you use the HDMI port rather than DVI or VGA you get more calibration options.

EDIT - one other thing - getting a PVA over a TN is a huge improvement. TN panels really do pail in comparison.

thanks for this thread

i've got a xerox xa7 19i at home, (19" non wide), and using 2x F-419 Neovo's in work (they're nice to work with)

may well take the same upgrade that you have :)

Received mine last week.

Picture quality seems fine, if a little fuzzy. Ghosting is noticeable when working with text, for example using the middle mouse button scroll function on webpages, but not while gaming or watching videos.

Hate the glossy bezel as it reflects light and takes the focus away from what's on the screen. Also the casing next to the screen reflects whatever you're looking at, which distracts. Attracts dust and looks filthy as soon as you take it out of the package. Flexible tilt function.

Touch sensitive buttons are a nice idea but, as ever, rubbish in practice. The buttons have the slightest of indentations to indicate their function and are not lit, meaning it's near impossible to work out which one does what without direct light. You get used to them after a while. Why are Korean manufacturers so obsessed with touch sensitive controls? :p

No dead pixels on mine, although one has become stuck on red, which is rather irritating.

One thing I'm slightly concerned about is some odd blue/purple hazing that sometimes appears. Don't know how explain it - it seems like the picture is being warped or distorted and an odd oily blue effect appears across the screen. Possible fault? Turning the monitor off and back on gets rid of it.

HDMI/VGA/DVI/Component with plug to connect headphones. Speakers are truly terrible. Mine came with a foreign two pin power plug, but the supplied English plug doesn't fit - the monitor end of it is rounded rather than having three box pinholes.

My oldish 8800 GTS 640mb handles Company of Heroes and Warhammer Online reasonably well at 1920x1200. Not going to risk trying Crysis until I can pick up a new fire extinguisher.

Coolasmoo, how would you say my backlight was?

That went back to hyundai and they said it was fine , they had no choice but to take it back in the end though

Yeah got mine today and was annoyed about the plug - its a UK plug but doesn't actually fit the monitor which is bizarre - overall I'm pleased with it and i'll post up some photos soon - runs Crysis Warhead great in 1920x1200 in Gamer mode on my 4870.

Only problem I have is that text seems a little soft - upping the sharpness doesn't seem to make any difference there either - any ideas?

Also like to know what settings other people have theirs at so I can try it out.

That would probably bug me too. It makes me wonder if you can buy sheets of low tack plastic - the sort of thing these surfaces usually come protected with, but with a matte finish. That would mask off the shine nicely.

aggggrrr now noticed 2 stuck pixels bottom left which i could deal with but now one dead pixel up the top of the screen - can these monitors be returned to OCuk if you are not happy with the dead/stuck pixel counts? Typical as I'm about to go on holiday

Got to post a few more impressions - I've got rid of the monitor - my first impressions were mostly based on desktop work - but once you play games with this screen it is pretty dire with some of the worst ghosting I've seen on a screen in ages - I've gone back to my 22" samsung it was so bad.

Got one myself and was a bit worried as I saw this thread just after buying it.

The plug that doesn't fit is stupid, the buttons are near enough invisible on the high gloss finish. Out of the box the brightness is way too high. Viewing angle is very good compared to my very old Dell 20" tft. Not had any bother with ghosting though I have only tried playing Warhead so far.

The plug not fitting caught me out for a while as the type supplied is the type of plug that would ordinarily fit into a power brick, so I initially thought I was missing the power brick. tbh its a bit naughty of hyundia/ocuk selling them without the correct UK mains lead!

I've no complaints with the monitor though, it blows my old 19" LCD away in terms of image quality, colour vibrancy and sheer size!

I just got this monitor last week but I'm having a problem with the back light flickering when set to anything below 100%. I've recorded a video demonstrating this although the camera does exaggerate it a lot:

100% brightness: http://leehemingway.com/stuff/100.avi
60% brightness: http://leehemingway.com/stuff/60.avi

Does anyone else have this problem when lowering the brightness? you may need to look through a digital camera screen to notice it even though I notice it without the camera.

I'm sending it back and don't know whether I should try another one or just go for a refund.

This monitor was more or less perfect for the price, besides the inverse ghosting. It's just the RTC overdrive that spoils it. Fortunately, you can turn it off via the OSD to reduce the effects.

Meanwhile, there is no option to do so with the HDMI input, which means if you want to hook up the PS3 you're going to have to make do with green trails (from reds), and yellows (from blues) and so on. It's impossible to play FIFA 09 without noticing.

Great for PC work/casual gaming though, and very low input lag to boot.
