Its a 2004 AUDI A4 1.9 TDI 130 Sport [6] has full audi service history couple of extras on it but the problem is its done 66k. To be honest im a bit of a milleage whore and always try and look for <12k miles a year on a car. But i suppose with a car of this quality i should be safe with more milleage. Are these cars good for 120k as if i was buying this i would be keeping it for a good 5 years and wouldnt want to keep on spending much maintaining it, or are they troublefree cars. Hes asking £8800 for it, i personally think its worth £7500-7750

I currently have a 2006 Fiesta ST which is worth around £7500ish and although its not a bad car im just bored of it now and to be honest its hard work to drive at slow traffic speeds (clutch so so bitey) and at motorway speeds its screeming out for 6th gear - not a pleasurable drive on a motorway tbh! I'm tired of the rough ride now as the roads around my area are dreadful. So for roughly the same money i could get something like this. Sad to say im 23 years old and im going for the comfy sensible car already haha :) what u think guys?

Nice car ruined by terrible spec and crap engine. Find a better one if you want an a4. I very much doubt a 66k 2004 a4 is only worth 7k however?

The spec above with 40K miles according to parkers is worth...

Audi A4 Saloon (00-04)

1. 1.9 TDI (130ps) 4d (6)
2. 2004/53
3. Average mileage: 40,000 miles

Original Price £20,690
Franchised Dealer £8,620
Independent Dealer £8,385
Private Good £7,990
Private Poor £6,530
Part Exchange £6,815

His spec includes...

6 Speed. Sport specification and extras to include; Factory Body kit and Chrome Pack, ABS, Alarm, Alloy wheels, Climate control, Built in IPod and Nokia installations. FASH with 11 months MOT and TAX.

Wouldnt you think £7500-7750 would be a fair price then?
Also whats wrong with the engine? ok its only 130bhp but 9.9secs to 60 aint bad and im sure its a nice cruser. 50mpg would be nice aswell!

I don't think there's anything wrong with the spec. Why do you want a crummy old diesel engine though? :p

Have you test drove one? Trust me, you will WISH you had a Ford clutch after driving this. Look for an Auto if it bothers you. Also.....7.5k for a 1.9TDI????? Look harder, does it have to be diesel?

Na doesnt have to be a diesel, as long as a a petrol could do atleast 35mpg, good performance, and tax band aint too high. Also insurance needs to be less than IG 14-15as im 23.

Basically i want a nice comfy cruiser (6 gears would be nice), good looking car, feel of quality in the car, wouldnt want anything bigger than an A4 tbh, and a budget of roughly £8k, and no more than 4ish years old. :)

I do roughly 12-15k a year.

Don't see much wrong with the PD130. Its plenty fast for most people and very economical. Its not up to latest BMW 2.0 diesels in refinement admittedly.

easy to remap though fox to 170bhp, pretty strong engine - stronger than the 2.0 tdi as found in modern VAGS

0-60 in ten seconds in a car of this class as nothing less that pathetic.
Pathetic? As you well know the 0-60 time isn't a good measure especially for diesels. For motorway work these things feel plenty quick enough. Who does acceleration runs in their repmobile anyway?

The VAG 1.9 PD 130 is a really agricultural engine in terms of refinement, and they smoke a lot as well under acceleration even on a car with average miles.

If all you do is bomb up and down the motorways with the windows closed, and don't care about covering all the people behind you in soot, then fair enough, but its a horrible engine to be driving around town in during the summer with the windows open, because its noisy and clattery. Having said that, at least you don't get the smelly fumes wafting into the cabin (unlike the Fabia) due to the longer length of the car.

The non-sport spec A4 is a comfy and sensible car on the motorway but with the Sport you have to put up with more knobbly ride quality compared to the SE.

Smart looking car though, inside and out.

I'd probably go for the 1.8T over the diesel for 15k/year.

£2077.05 in diesel per year and £2519.69 in petrol per year, not a massive saving though I guess it depends on your circumstances.

It's a Sport. Why would you buy a Sport unless at least some of your driving involved A roads rather than Motorways? And on A roads, you overtake things, accelerate out of corners, etc etc.

Unless you drive a 130bhp A4, in which case you... sit in the traffic queue.

They are nice cars but this engine is unsuitable for this sort of car, really. If all you want is an economical Motorway barge then why not just get a... Mazda 6? ;)

If you want a nice Audi, do it properly. Get one with a bit of kit (I can't beleive that doesn't have have a multifunction wheel) and a bit of poke. The A4 with the Quattro GMBh body styling kit is a handsome car. Make sure it's got the poke to back that up.

Probably because its neither a barge, nor particulary economical, nor particularly refined on the motorway (unless he wants to drop £7.5k on the '05 on facelift version with improved refinement) :p

Just sold my 52 plater earlier this year, the engine's not as bad as everyone makes out sure its not the most refined thing in the world but was quiet enough for me, the economy is the bit i miss the most 550-600 miles from a tank was pretty common where i get 320 now from my TT. I found the ride in my A4 a bit choppy if im at all honest and they are defo better with leather too, on the plus side that has the symphony double din stereo should you wish to swap it out for the RNS-E DVD sat nav its a simple job and they can be had relatively cheaply from the bay, mine didnt have the GmbH kit which looks fab on that, also I missed out on the 6 speed box but was superchipped when i bought it so wasnt as slow as I thought it would be, all in all very nice cars, better looking than 3 series imo just not as good to drive, they are pretty sparse on spec aswell i was shocked that mine had no MFD so couldnt tell the what my current average mpg was without working it out pump to pump, i did manage london to newcastle and back on a 3/4 tho :)

*edit* i wouldnt worry about the mileage i got mine with 85k on the clock sold it about 6 months later with 93 on and didnt loose much at all, the sat nav helped on the resale i think ;)
