Classy cases? Thing of the past?

lol did you work at some sort of training ground for amateur wrestlers? :p

Antecs in general are built amazingly well - steel for the win! Whereas numerous people say the 1.5mm ally on LianLi's feels cheap and flimsy.

1.5? He said V series ;) 2.5-3mm thick.

Some may say it's a bit 'utilitarian', but I still love my CM Stacker 810. Huge, flexible, very well ventilated, ATX - BTX option, just brilliant, and very understated. It is damn heavy though!
That definitely belongs to classy cases.
Might have tried to get one for replacing STC-T01 but open design is rather hard for silencing and couple 5.25" bays more wouldn't be bad. (Lian Li A71B should arrive tomorrow)

Basic Antecs are nothing special, maybe steel alloy is stronger than in cheapest cases but sides are still quite thin and resonance prone. Occasionally vibrating fan caused horrible resonances in neighbour's Sonata II.

a lot of the lian's suffer the same problems. They are the most flimsy cases i've had contact with, Look good though.

Really wanted the a70 but totally put off by flimsy panels.

I kinda agree with the OP, I currently have an ATC 201b-SXK, PAC-T01 (Praetorian) and Lian Li PC-7A and nothing really matches the quality of the former imo. The only problem with my cases is they only support 80mm fans and I could do with a little extra space in them.

Lian Li seem to make the best cases these days, but for the good ones you might want to re-mortgage your house.

Silverstone are the new Coolermaster ACS. Strokes Temjin.

Silverstone TJ09 is a beast! :)

I can only just pick the thing up it is immense, it puts Lian Li and Antec to shame.

It was pusing £200, that is oldschool Coolermaster Territory.

Should give a V series side panel a test, not flimsy at all. :)

I agree about the lesser models though, PC-7 in particular.

I <3 my ATCS 110 :) Bought it for £200 back in January 2003, and its the only original component of my PC today :D

IMO, absolutely nothing comes even close to Coolermaster's ATCS range. Lian Li was the underdog for ages until CM dropped their standards bigtime (everything after the wavemaster was just utter crap), then Lian Li just reigned supreme but their cases never ever surpassed ATCS. A lot of modern cases look ok with plain closed door look but are horribly let down once you see the case with the door open. Others look good apart from a horrible fan grille design on the side. It just seems theres always one or two things wrong with a case that would otherwise allow it to look perfect :(

Looks pretty classy to me. Minimalist and not over stated at all.

Looks good until you open the door :(

I totally agree though

nothing comes close to my CM110 and S1000 ;)

I agree with OP. That 201 looks gorgeous.

Although the ATC 110 was my favourite I think:

Amen brothers :p

Currently have a P182 - nice classy understated case. But IMO nothing comes close to the Coolermaster ATCs - I think they were a high water mark for case design. The Black Widow is my favourite case ever; I couldn't afford one at the time, and often get tempted to try and pick one up now. Apart from them being pretty hard to get hold of these days (most people who have one tend not to be selling!) I worry that I'd miss my 120mm case fans too much. One day I'll get one for the hell of it.

I can reinforce the comments on the quality of the P182. I have the P182SE and I think it's very classy. Not sure if they're available any more, but the the normal P182 is probably more understated and just as good quality.

After looking at a few sites who have done some strip downs of this case Im quite taken by the Atcs 840, ill be keeping an eye on this and may just grab one when they come out, hopefully they will be sub £130. I think if they are more i think id rather grab a silverstone in some flavor.
