Q6600 or Q9550?

The Q6600 is definitely more "bang for buck". Many Q6600's will go beyond 3.3ghz, mine will hit 3.8 stable, however I run it at 3.3 for more sensible voltage/temps.

The Q9550 should hit 4GHz afaik, but for nearly double the price, I just don't think it's worth it.

Yeah, more bang for you buck, but 4Ghz gives me chillzzzz :D.

I'm getting a 4870X2 and when playing Crysis I don't want to be thinking "Should have gone for the Q9550" :P

What are you using it for? If its gaming bear in mind you want see any noticeable real world gains past 3ghz as by then the GPU is the bottleneck in 95% of setups. If you do a lot of encoding or 3D modelling or some such, then by all means go for it, but otherwise, you shouldn't notice much outside of a bigger E-penis.

Would imagine with i7 comming up that a lot of Q6600 will come onto the market (I know I am going to sell soon).. you can get a Q6600 for around £90ish (depending on quality) on the MM..

If your thinking for a Q6600 would go 2nd hand and buy yourself a clocker.. rather than buying new..

Q6600

And don't waste money on a guaranteed overclock chip.

He's right, they are a complete waste (sorry Gibbo). If you are going to get a Q6600 then just make sure you get the G0 stepping chip and overclock it to kingdom come.

As I MAY have prevented a sale there I will try make it up to OcUk by recommending this fine product:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...1&name=Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)

I have one with my Q6600 and get extremely low temps for the price.

I'm sure Gibbo isn't bothered, everytime anyone buys a guaranteed clock chip they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I love my Q6600 chip. Currently running mine at 3.8GHz withthe aid of watercooling :)

It's a steal really.. and certainly one of the best CPUs ever for it's overclocking and price..
