Reading through that other thread about whether or not aliens would be more technologically advanced than us got me wondering - how many people here actually believe in aliens? (Not necesarily little green man btw, anything)

I personally do, from the percieved size of the universe, I do not belive that we are the only life to have sprouted. I'd say the chances of a planet having the desired conditions to support life, heat, light, food etc are probably fairly low - going from other planets in our solar system.

I mean, people say Mars probably once had life, maybe it did, but until it's proven I'm dubious about it. I don't automatically assume water = life. Still, I do think there is life out there, and I don't think I will witness anything in my lifetime. As for them being advanced or not.. well, we could have pew pew lasers and they could just have the equivalent of bow and arrows.

Do you believe in aliens? :)

hey there, I certainly believe in other life forms amongst the galaxy. I think it's a bit silly to think that we are the only ones out here in this whole.....i dont even know what to call it because it is so massive :P

Also I dont believe them to be little green men at all (although maybe some of them are and if you are reading this then im sorry, didnt mean to offend).

You should have a look at this when you have the time, its very fascinating:

I'd be more surprised to learn that in the entire Universe, our little planet is the only one with any form of life on. Surely there must be something else out there, otherwise we're incredibly lonely.

A two hour video on youtube

I don't think I have the willpower to sit through all of it though..

I know what you are saying but once you watch the first 15mins you'll see where its going. Or you can always skim - but to cut a long story short the people on that tape range from NASA officials to ex-military and blah blah blah who were all given clearance to supposed "TOP SECRET" projects. This involved everything from airbrushing out certain things that they found on satellite pictures of the surface of planets to recovering wreckage from UFO crash landings (with both dead and alive life forms).

I am quite sure that our little planet is not the only one out of literally millions of other planets that must exist and are similar to ours to harbour intelligent life.

However, you have to remember that the human race has existed for a relative blink of an eye in the timescales of the universe, so whether we'll have the opportunity to meet any other intelligent life that just so happens to exist at the same time as us is a different matter...

If you look at our solar system...Take the distance of us from the sun, and the two nearest planets to us distances from the sun; ie mars and Venus, these two don't have any life, merely atm because of the distance from the sun due to too much heat or not enough of it.

Now take another solar system....They would need a sun equal to ours, plus planets around~ the same distance from the sun as ours...To even think about before having life forms equivalent to how ours started.

Granted you could have a smaller scaled sun with less heat, but the planets being closer and visa versa for a bigger sun but the solar system being larger etc...Then you mat have life as how we know it.

But then put into the facter that maybe how we have lived isn't the only way, and that we just haven't adapted to being able to live in such hostile enviroments such as Venus and Mars.

How likely is it to find a solar system like ours? With a planet like ours...Pretty much in the ONLY position it can be in, the perfect position, not too far, and not too close.

That's what I find interesting, how indeed likely it is to have another planet the same as ours. Therefore having life.

Just us, we are the 1st and will be here for many millions of years till another race pops up, prob an off shoot of us when we dump rubbish into space and some baccytirears get onto another planet...

Bit like SPORE really... lots of odd shape thngs running around bumping into tree's until they get eyes lol..

It's unlikely yes, but then think how many stars there are out there.

That's a hell of a lot.
I'd be willing to bet that pretty much the same conditions as our solar system exist around at least another one of those stars.

Do i believe there is other life in the universe? Probably
Do i believe there is other intelligent beings in the universe? Maybe
Do i believe aliens have visited earth? I love the idea, and i would love to say yes but my answer is a near certain no

didn't they find fossilsed bacteria on mars? in which case there definately ARE aliens somewhere as there were some on mars not so long ago. Unless of course, by aliens, you mean little green men.
