Crysis Warhead - Gone Gold

Go to your games menu, right click on the icon, should be an option titled 'play DX9'. If you go into customize you can move 'Play DX9' to the top of the list, that will make the game launch in DX9 when you double click the icon.

I don't have a clue why they defaulted it to DX10, it runs like a dog and only looks marginally better than DX9.

Got it thanks!

I'll be buying a hard copy when its like £5. PC gamer has reviewed it with a score of 60%!? Yet they have scored the witcher enhanced 81%!? A game the are infamous for scoring low last time around when most people liked it.

That PC gamer review irritated me, it's basically more of Crysis, for only £15 , and they gave 92% to the original, but they gave Warhead 60%?

Timeshift got more than that, dunno if you've played it, its one of those generic unreal engine 3 games like Blacksite and Jericho :o

What's wrong with buying it through Steam?

1. You run the possibility of throttling your connection(traffic shaping) resulting in even lower download speeds.
2. It's more expensive than buying it from the shops.
3. You can't determine where you want to install the game. It automatically installs it onto the drive where steam is installed.
4. You can't sell the game if you dont like it.
5. If you uninstall the game, and fancy a blast a few months later, you have to download the whole thing again. You could backup onto a disk, but why not just buy the proper disk anyway?
6. You have to downloads crysis wars seperatley, and whilst your doing that, you can't play warhead.
7. You don't get a case or instruction manual for quick reference.
8. If the game ever gets corrupt, you have to downloads the whole thing again

Basically, what IS the point in getting it via steam? I wouldn't even bother if it was available a week earlier.

All valid points, but to get a hard copy, I must venture outdoors where gangs run the streets. I cannot take that risk.

I downloaded it while I was asleep.

2. It's more expensive than buying it from the shops.

Cost an extra £5 but I don't care. I wouldn't pick £5 if I dropped it on the street.

3. You cant determine where you want to install the game. It automatically installs it onto the drive where steam is installed.

I have a games partition. Amazingly enough, I chose to install Steam on this partition. Therefore Crysis Warhead will install on the same partition. Exactly as planned.

4. You can't sell the game if you dont like it.

No one wants to buy a used DVD copy with all the concerns over the 3 installs. Also it retails for £15, so I would never sell it. I don't need the £5 that badly.

5. If you uninstall the game, and fancy a blast a few months later, you have to download the whole thing again.

Steam has a very easy to use function that anyone can use to back up the game files onto a separate partition for those times you want to format.

6. You have to downloads crysis wars seperatley, and whilst your doing that, you cant play warhead.

I don't plan to play Crysis 24 hours a day. I'm sure I will manage to download Crysis Wars eventually, I tend to sleep most nights.

7. You don't get a case or instruction manual for quick reference.

I have access to a very nice pdf which is far more time efficient than flicking through a manual. For example, I can search for key words.

8. If the game ever gets corrupt, you have to downloads the whole thing again

Again, I do sleep. Never happened with any of my Steam games. Very unlikely to happen this time as I don't mess with any of the config.

Basically, what IS the point in getting it via steam? I wouldn't even bother if it was available a week earlier.

See above.

Only if you can't pick a normal isp. Tbh your own fault if you didn't read an isp had such a ****ty policy about downloading a lot...
2. It's more expensive than buying it from the shops.
Not always, but I agree, this is a bit ridiculous...
3. You cant determine where you want to install the game. It automatically installs it onto the drive where steam is installed.
Install steam where you want your games ?
4. You can't sell the game if you dont like it.
True. Well, you can just create a new account for every game and sell the account on if you're desperate...
5. If you uninstall the game, and fancy a blast a few months later, you have to download the whole thing again.
Is this a problem? I hate installing from cd/dvd's, it takes quite a while for big games, you may have to change drives, and you have to input all kinds of rubbish like cd keys, whereas in steam, I buy it, it starts downloading, I play another game in the meantime, and it's done in an hour, perhaps 2 for big games like crysis...

Anyways steam has a backup feature.
6. You have to downloads crysis wars seperatley, and whilst your doing that, you cant play warhead.
Big deal? Start the download and eat diner or whatever ? OR play a non steam game ?
7. You don't get a case or instruction manual for quick reference.
You do, in PDF format...

Anyways, I like steam for the simplicity, I click buy, and I can walk away and play the game very soon, whereas for a retail copy, I either have to wait for mr postman or have to get off my arse to buy it :(. Then waste 15 or more minutes on sitting and staring at the setup, clicking next, typing over the cd key, then having to put in the bloody cd every time I want to play the game... It's just too annoying for me... Uninstalling takes ages too usually whereas in steam the delete local files command is nearly instant...

It's a mad game compared to Crysis, you can hold 16 grenades, instead of the pistol slot you get dual SMG's, you get a 6 shot revolving grenade launcher and the APC fires explosive ammo xD

Well, i'm generalising here - not sure how many gamers may be on limited ISP packages, I know i'm not - but due to where I live I have a 1Mb connection, the distance from the exchange and rural location dont allow any better. :(

So for me to pull it down on steam, even at top speed would take around 20hours for 8Gb, so a release date on 19th means id be looking at the 20th at best to play it, and seeing as I dont know if i'll like it or want to keep it - i'd rather have a physical copy for resale later!

I wouldnt pay £20 for a film that I could only watch 3 times, or can watch as much as I like but never sell - so why should I do it for a game?

Well then you're just not the target market :) I have a 20Mb connection that works wonders, cheap and not throttled or limited at all, anything under 20GB is easily downloaded for me - and i love download services :) Almost quicker to download games that max out my connection than installing from a disc.

Oh well, each to their own, but I guess it's not for everyone, me included. I wanted a blast on HL2 Ep2 the other day, It wasn't installed and i didn't have enough space on that partition to install it. This meant i had to reluctantly uninstall some other games just to install HL2 EP2. The only other way i could think to get around this was to install a fresh steam onto my other partition, but i dont want 2 steam programs on my pc. I wanted a blast on portal whilst downloading EP2, but it wouldn't let me because i was downloading Ep2, GREAT!! I dont think it completley deleted the files either after uninstalling. After reinstallation of EP2, it started at something like 40%, so it must leave files behind from the uninstallation, thus wasting disk space.

FYI, i dont need the disk in the drive to play warhead, and it took about 15-20mins to install. Round about the same as steam version at a guess??
