Is there any difference between specsavers/vision express/boots/blahblah, there seem to be loads of them in this area..

My eyes seem to vary from decent to crap and i dont know why so i want to get them looked at. Any idea which one does the best job or are they all the same? Must be someone out there with some experience at this..

Cheers.

Want to do it in cardiff tommorrow, they are all local (I only live 5 mins away)..

So vision express is better than specsavers? :) Why?

AFAIK they are all pretty much the same, I think some test peripheral vision and do some pressure test, but tbh it's only needed if you're old.
Specsavers are all franchised so will probably vary from town to town, but they are most defiantly much cheaper than vision express/d&a/boots. Vision express (and D&A) are a total rip-off compared to specsavers.

Went to SpecSavers last Saturday cos my eyes are bad they spec'ed me some new specs (see what I did there), had a good deal on a two for one and got them today - Job Done

+1 for SpecSavers

btw you may have to book I had to wait two weeks for an eye test

I went to Vision Express. It was more but then I felt satisfied with the service and tests carried out. Naturally all opticians are regulated but this one warranted the £35. Peripheral tests/pressure test/usual test and retina photograph.

I had my last one for free from D&A (look for offers for opticians on moneysupermarket) and they were really good.

this thread reminds me that 2 years ago they told me to come back in 2 years.

I went to Boots and the service was great, and being in Scotland, it was also free. Although the test costs pretty much nothing if you do need new glasses anyway.

Bleh, I had a look around for free tests and D&A do one, and they aint in cardiff..

Ill pick a random one tommorrow after work ^^

Cheers fellas

Specsavers in Aylesbury are excellent. They have been seeing son No2 for 4 years now and we have had nothing but top notch treatment from all concerned and we haven't spent a penny. I know that they get money from the Govt. but we could not have had better service if we had been paying for everything ourselves.

Thats good to hear. I think I will probably go to specsavers in cardiff, since I walk past it on my way to/from work, most convenient :) I understand they are a franchise so I hope they are as good in cardiff as in aylesbury.

Probably the most valid 'spec me' thread on here.

How do we know which opticians are qualified when we go for an eye test? Frankly, I wouldn't know where to start.

I think they have to be qualified to offer an eye test, from random readings around on the internets this evening :) (surely there are better things to do on a friday night!)

I went for one a couple of weeks ago, just chose what was closest to me at the time as it was work subsidised.

Happened to be D&A. Seemed like a normal eye test to me, quite well done etc. Would be expensive if I was paying for it (£25).

If you have a lifestyle card, I think VisionExpress do freebies.
