My kids have my strong Hamilton name and they want to keep it, if Andy her new fiancee marrried my kids mum he'd only change Jess's name to get my kids Andy would have to adopt them, he needs my permission to adopt, at 18 my kids can change their names by deed poll anyway.
am i right..

as my mum remarried and me and my brothers were adopted by my stepdad
you have to legally abandon you children so the new parents can adopt and only if you are ok with it or the courts see it fit to do so as was my case
real dad not seen me in 14 years when i was 15 so he was pretty much told where to go.
 
They don't need to change their names by deed poll, it just makes it easier if they do. You can change your name whenever you like as long as you don't do it for fraudulant purposes.
 
You can do it through the CAB, I did it when my parents divorced when I was 18.. took my Mum's surname. All you have to do is sign a bit of paper and that's it - it's legally recognised etc and doesn't cost a thing :)

I think it was called "change of name deed" or something like that.
