Abit IP-35 Pro XE with an E8500 - Showing overtemp in bios

Hi all,

I have recently purchased the following kit:
Abit Ip35-pro xe
E8500
4gb GeIL black dragon PC8500
500w Zelman modular psu
and a Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCS Extreme 1024MB

Put them into my current case with current hdd's dvd's etc.

Powered up no problems.
Entered BIOS, reset to Optimised default. Entered uGuru menu and checked standard (no overclocking) settings. Checked temp and it was showing 93 deg C. Powered down, took apart and put back together making sure everyhting was correct. Got same temps. Tried my old Prescott chip and it runs sweet at 40 deg C.

Took the chip back to Overclockers who confirmed the chip is fine (Thanks guys).

I've updated the BIOS to latest version (using good old DOS boot disks and floppy drives... which took me back a little). The BIOS went from ver 10 to ver 11.

I still have the same problem with overtemp reporting (the BIOS update mentioned fixing this problem too)

I've flashed back to the original version and then back again too.

Looking for anyone with any help/advice.

Many many thanks
Natty

I'd be really tempted to say that the E8500 is too new for even the latest final BIOS, and therefore it's mis-reporting the temp.

Join the Abit or TRP forums and search for or post the problem in here or here. They are usually able to sort any issues, or atleast offer some advise.

Thanks for the speedy reply Cob.

Some good reading on them two forums. Someone with the same problem and some other threads which have given me some ideas, like setting the uguru settings myself for the chip and not letting the BIOS do it. I'm just looking about to get all the info I'll need

Will keep this posted with progress

Yip just been reading your thread over at TRP, and

Hi beast. Yes thats correct mate.

CPU 103C
CPU1 46C
CPU2 48C

is identical to the issue we had with the 45nm chips on the standard IP35 Pro. It was fixed on the v17 BIOS, so I'm somewhat surprised that it hasn't been sorted out with the latest XE BIOS. Either way it's nothing to worry about as the core temps are reported correctly (tho the very latest version of Core Temp may drop them by another 5c or so).

Yeah, I build my other half a PC a few months back with the IP35-E and we needed to flash the BIOS before it would see the E8200. We've updated the TRP post a little today too.

After help from the nice folk over at TRP I now think the problem is that I've got a E0 edition of the the CPU and its not supported by the BIOS yet. Using Core Temp 0.99.3 I'm seeing both cores run at around 47C-50C on idle.

I've contacted Abit. Will keep you guys posted.

I chucked the 17 BIOS onto my Abit IP35 Pro a couple of days ago. I changed the BIOS from 16 as I was getting a temperatur of 102 degress in the BIOS!

Anyway, still see the same thing is BIOS 17. Nothing to worry about though, as Real temp shows 41-50 degrees.

Also, CPU-ID doesnt report the multiplier correctly with any BIOS! Only whole number, no .5's
