Hi guys,

We've made an accidental damage claim for our 42" plasma TV. The upright hoover fell against it last week and since then there has been a vertical line of miscoloured pixels down the screen.

Phoned up Abbey today and they've said a company called Ival will call me in the next few days to arrange to either repair or replace it.

I was just wondering what the most likely situation will be?

The TV is just over 1 year old, and is a Panasonic 42" HD plasma.

Thanks,

Mal

IVAL usually replace on a like for like basis. Unless that particular model is no longer stocked in which case it should be the next equivalent model. If they offer a model you're not happy with go back to your insurance company (or loss adjusters if one has been appointed) and kick up a stink. I'd insist that any replacement comes from the same manufacturers unless that particular TV is actually better than what it's replacing. I used to work for a loss adjusters that dealt with IVAL a lot. Because it's a Panny, the only other manufacturer I'd consider would be Pioneer.

No probs. Just make sure it's a Panny or Pioneer of the same size and equivalent features. They will spot if you go for a FullHD set if you didn't have one previously!

I am also making a claim... My first ever and considering how long I have been paying my premiums, I think Im entitled to it.

Mine is a genuine claim, but it does look suspicious, and yes, its abbey and IVAL are supposed to have contacted me on thursday but they never did, so, I tried to phone them but the phoe kept ringing... Then, on friday I phoned abbey to tell them, and they too also got held up, so they marked it down and today I was to get another call... I never did.

Anyway, the kids drawer unit had their TV on it, I was using the kids laptop to play a Movie through the Laptop onto the TV, kinf of Media Center style, so they were hooked up, and one of the drawers slowly started to open, it hit the end bit ( That stops the drawer coming out ) and that jarred the drawer unit and the rest of the drawers started to slide out.

The drawer is obviously on a slant for the drawers to come out like that and the weight of all the drawers was too much and it toppled the whole lot over.

Naturally I have movbed it all back now but the drawers sliding open can easily be doen and so, I am hoping that some turd from Ival comes to see and I will show him that I am not trying to pull a fast one, because I do feel like a fibber on this, but its true what happened!

O IVAL what a treat your in for! I broke some camera gear (Canon 1D MkII and Canon 24-70 2.8 L lens) and it took them ten weeks to send me a replacement of the lens. I have a feeling that it had got lost and they couldn't tell me exactly where it was.

Try and change your insurance company and inquire as to whether they use IVAL for electronic devices.

So far so far to be honest... Ival phoned me on Monday as promised, and told me that Currys would be in touch to make an appointment to send someone to say whether it will be repair or replace. Currys phoned 2 hours later and they are booked to come and see it on Saturday!

Just had to deal with iVal myself, they were on the whole reasonable to deal with, though I did have to push a little to get what I considered to be a reasonable amount out of them as they were very willing to try and fob me off with a far inferior setup to what had been damaged. They ended up sending me a comet card to buy a new tv with which allowed me to add funds and upgrade at the same time, can't say I'd ever use comet again however.
