I'm going to be graduating this Tuesday, but I'm completely at a loss for what tie to have with my gown as I currently don't own any.

I'm going to pop to the shops early tomorrow and try to find one, but I guess I'd like your opinions on what colour and style to go with.

The gown is blue and orange, as shown here and I will be wearing a white shirt.

NB: I never thought I'd do a 'spec me' thread but meh.

TIA!

Go to M&S or such and find one you like. What colour suit?

No suit, just a white shirt, black trousers, and a orange & blue gown over the top.

I honestly have no idea what colour or style to get, and if I just picked something it will probably look awful. I'm thinking more along the lines of what will / wont go with the gown if you see what I mean. :)

As long as you don't get crazy patterned you should be fine. Go plain, or calm stripes. Don't want the focus of your photos to be a very dated tie in 10 years time!

Personally, I'd just wear a plain blue one matching the blue on the robes.

Edit: How rude of me, Congrats on graduating sir!

No, the hood is orange and blue ;)

Quite a dilema, its not exactly easy to find something that goes with both. How about your university's tie? I wore the University tie for my graduation, which got me a bit of heckling from friends but I liked it :D

Are you doing the writing masters you wanted to do?

And of course, congratulation :)

Nah, I'm looking for work at the moment. Can't afford to do a masters just yet either, but I'm thinking of possibly doing one in a couple of years after I've travelled. Although, anything I do probably wont be in writing (decided I can do that in my spare time anyway!) but probably something in Environmental Assessment of something.

The university tie is a little horrid in my opinion, so I'll be avoiding that although I quite like the scarf. :p

I'm thinking that possibly a plain red tie or a nice calm striped blue tie may be my best bets.

Thanks for the congratulations so far, really wasn't expecting that! :D

What do you think of this and this?

I don't think I've got time to get hold of the university tie Nitefly, even if I did like it. :p

EDIT:

Links appear to have shifted.

How did you manage that?

I'm on their mailing list, they wrote to me to tell me they had a sale on, and said that if I go there I get a free tie. I went in, picked the tie I liked the most, gave them my letter and left with a nice silk tie :)

Where do I sign up?

Where do I sign up?

I signed up when I bought my suit there I think. It was branch specific as well I think. You could try their website, but I imagine all you'll get are e-mails about sales (which are actually quite good for decent shirts, even in highstreet shops)
