Just wondering how this would compare to a modern 4870, GTX260 or GTX280? They are getting dirt cheap for used cards now.

Dunno? lol im still waiting for an ali board to go normal sli. i have another 8800gtx sat here begging to be used! u got 3 of em?

Not got any of them but was considering picking up 3 and a cheapish 680i motherboard second hand. Just wondering if it is a viable option.

It'll run hot and use a lot of power...I can see the appeal (and can't answer your question :|), but before you spend money on 3x8800GTX and a mobo be sure to price up the newer kit. Got a decent PSU ready? Is your PC on often and do you pay the electricity bill?

Check out the new kit? sorry what can be more appealling than triple sli 8800gtx

tri sli'd gtx's arent appealing at all tbh. sell up and get a crossfire setup like dual 4870's or a single 4870x2.

I habe two! so not really lol another would be cheap to get hold off

Sure, but the OP hasnt got any. Anyway too much heat, i have a 680i and sli 8800gtx and another one in the middle would be too toasty for me sending my abient case temps soaring. Still its up to you:D

you'll use a lot of power, generate a lot of heat, and have a manky 6 series mobo to boot.

I need a new mobo anyway so that cost isnt too significant. But £240 tri SL 8800GTX should spank a £240 GTX280. Ihave a DELL 30" and at 2560 reviews indicate about 40% increase in performance of tri SLI over normal SLI.

Good poonts about power and heat though.

Toyed with the idea myself but the temperature inside the system wold be insane! Better to go for a 4870x2
