Hi folks,

I have been playing crysis through for the first time. It's been really good all the way through until you start fighting the aliens. It looks great on my pc (4ghz E8400, 4gb ram, overclocked 4870). I loved the levels in the jungle fighting the koreans, I had most of the graphical settings on very high with a few set to high and it was great.

I've got to say the worst level in the game is the one where you are floating around inside the alien base, it was so dire and boring! However, nothing compares to the last boss! As soon as I came outside to fight the large walker on the deck of the ship my PC started lagging massively. I had to change all of my settings down to medium just to play it. After I had got past that and the ship comes out of the sea it got even worse! I had to change everything down to low and even then it was bad (including a few times it has frozen my pc and I have had to restart!). I haven't completed it yet because I keep getting really low fps and it goes all jerky and I can't shoot those damn flying alien things! I have taken out both of the "arms" of the alien ship but not yet taken out the middle section. I have had to give up though so close to the end, it's really ****** me off!

Has anyone else had massive performance issues at this part of the game? I don't think I'll bother loading it again to see if I can beat it. It's too frustrating! To think I wanted to get it done so I could then play crysis: warhead. I don't think I'll bother now.

Play Warhead, runs better, looks better, better story and more action. :D

^^^ this

Warhead basically, takes crysis, fixes performance issues and removes the rubbish parts imo.

Runs better? From what I hear it dont

Warhead defaults to DX10 whereas crysis only used DX10 when set to 'very high'. The result of this is a rather heavy performance hit that people comment on as first impressions (i did), when DX10 is disabled in Warhead it runs miles better than crysis did in DX9 for me.

It's just so frustrating that I managed to get through the whole game absolutely fine but then I can't do the last five minutes (if that!). I'm not sure I'll bother with warhead if it's more of the same. I might buy it in a months time or something and another game in the meantime.

What a let down :(

i had no problems with crysis at high setting all the way though. now i have crysis warhead and so far its running great at gamer setting, 1920x1080.. as said above crysis warhead as more action..

Don't listen to this guy he is blind and named margaret, other people have tryed to tell him aswell but he's in denial

Runs good, but first game looked a lot better with around same fps.....Not far into it yet so dont know about story yet but soon as you start game the aliens come which is boring me to death.....And only thing he is right about is that it has none stop action

Are you that sad to follow me into other threads?

Also, other people think it looks good, as do some reviews, so I really don't care. Obviously a large amount of people went blind went Warhead came out eh?

Edit: If you're having similar performance on Warhead as Crysis then something is wrong with your setup, or you haven't set it to Dx9.

He's right though, it does play better with better fps.

I personally think Warhead looks worse than Crysis too.

"Stuff" may look better but the huge open scenes and large scale feel doesn't seem to be there in warhead.

There are areas in Crysis that I remember getting unexplainable FPS drops. Just after the alien fossil activates and freezes the room and the carrier. However, simply quitting to menu and reloading those sections does the trick for most people, including me.

Fantastic game.

Warhead plays far far better. You only have to bring up screenshots with r_displayinfo 1 to prove that. I said in the other thread already that the original was 35fps at best and slowed down a lot, Warhead is so much better it's unreal. It's a consistent 45-60fps on the same settings.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Crysis runs in both DX9 and DX10. DX 10 doesn't magically activate when you select very high.

You either opt to run the game in DX9 or DX10 mode. Very high settings are simply not selectable in DX9.

The the OP, did you patch the game? I know that after the patches the later stages ran much better.

No, he's right. Warhead uses DX10 all across the board unless you go out of your way to turn it off. Crysis uses DX10 when set to Very High unless you go out of your way to edit the cvargroups to include the extra graphical capabilities in DX9. DX10 does indeed 'magically activate' when you set it to Very High. Opting to run the game in either DX9 or DX10 mode is done via a rightclick of a specific game shortcut, it's hardly intuitive and most players probably don't even know this.

Original Crysis also defaults to DX10 (mine anyway) as long as you're in Vista. In DX9 mode very high settings simply grey out, in xp you have to use moded config file to get it to work but even then it's not true very high settings .

To OP yes everyone has the same performance issue at the last level. As for defeating boss it shouldn't be too hard just follow the instructions and use the big gun you got from the armory to destroy the mothership shields.

And no from my experience so far warhead does not run better it's the same as the original crysis at best at the same settings, with a few large outdoor areas lagging heavily until you drop down the object settings to mainstream or minimum. Also I noticed framerate fluctuates a lot more than the original crysis.
