I'm not talking about glorifying Nazism here. I mean it would be interesting to see it the War from there point of view of a German Soldier. Do you think it will ever happen?

Funny you mention that, i recall playing CoD1 through and just wishing they released a German expansion pack. It seemed like they were trying to represent all the major armies with a chapter for each; without a German section it felt like something was missing almost.

Surely not every German soldier was evil?

Oh, quite the contrary, i would be willing to wager the percentage of truly evil German soldiers wasn't far off the percentage found in any other army. I think what people would have had problems with is the fact that you would actually be shooting allied soldiers, something that would probably leave quite a bad taste in many peoples mouths.

[EDIT] Now i think about it, if i played a game where you played a Nazi fighting allies, i may as well be playing a game where i shoot at my Granddad and his mates. It's only a game, so i would still play it (the German one, not the Grandpa killer :p), but when i look at it from that perspective it does seem rather strange.

back when the original cod was released i played a single player mod that allowed you to play as a german soldier on d-day, i remember it being quite good, it even had voice acting which wasnt half bad, its a shame though that they never completed the full mod.

It would be a very interesting game if done correctly. Seeing it from a German prospective along with all the propaganda and stuff that came with it.

Unfortunately the fact you would be pumping rounds into those who people consider heroes (albeit virtual), may not help its cause. Then again you are allowed to play as the Germans in Opposing Fronts, doing pretty much the same thing.

i never completed that expansion, how does it all end? I mean do you only play selected missions from the german campaign as i cant imagine the ending being a very rewarding one lol

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as yourself, I never finished it as I didn't enjoy it as much as the Allied campaign.

I think if the game was done tastefully (or as much so as possible) it could be a refreshing look at WWII games.

Given that you shoot at Allied soldiers in the likes of Call of Duty multiplayer, it probably isn't that far fetched in terms of an idea.

I also don't think it's fair to glorify the death of German soldiers and then to say that American soldiers being shot at would be wrong. War is essentially wrong from both angles but obviously those fighting for the right reasons won on that occasion.

I'm not trying to offend or be controversial with that but I'm sure plenty of German soldiers were fighting reluctantly or didn't believe (at least near the end) that what they were fighting for was correct.

I remember pwning the Allied forces on Allied Assault in multiplayer. If it's fine to do it in multiplayer, why would it be such a problem in single player?

No, just No, I don’t want to play as the Germans. Its one thing to play as the Axis in the multi player, it’s another thing to play as them in a single player campaign.

I can see the back of the box now "gun down up to 3 different nationalities on the beaches of Normandy" and "relive the glory days as you march across 6 different countries"

Panzer General did it, obviously not an FPS but it did have a German campaign, last mission was you defending the ruins of Berlin iirc.

It could happen but nobody would have the balls to do it.

The CoD series will stick to their cash cow of bad World War II / Middle East stories.
