Yes, speed doesn't really matter when you can get a couple of your mates up the road to pull onto the road in front of the speeding criminal.

Pics? Can't say I've heard of a Police XJ220!About 10 years ago our local police had an XJ220 in use that they'd confiscated.

Let's see if I can find anything on google. They used to love telling us this when they came in to school talks etc. Grampian Police it would be.
There was quite an interesting clip on traffic cops a while ago in Manchester (I think) where the police were in an unmarked STI and the were following an Evo - found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dfq2FAZWoA.
Quite likely just a poster car then, like the Italian Lambo and a few other forces with cars stickered up...still, would be awesome to see one on the road doing a chase though.

I thought the italian lambos were used I think I remember reading something in evo about whoever owns the lp640 taking it into the factory to get some bits replaced and they were there just ticking over 200,000kms.
Not sure, as far as I was aware (with some of them at least), they were just poster cars. Although now that you mention it I do recall it being said last time these cars came up that the Italian one turned out to actually be used.

A mates golf gti 150 td does 145mph quite easily, I very much doubt a helicopter could keep up, let lone any sort of petrol turbo engine
In a night persuit maybe with an empty motorway.... But 145mph constantly in a car like that would Suck fuel.. diesel or not.. he would have to stop sometime to let the car cool down, too.
Plus a minor point that the helo is higher and can cover ground a lot faster than the car as it has straight line ability but the car has to go where the road takes it.
