hey, ill be saving up for a new car soon. I was thinking of getting a 1.4 corsa 1999 model, not the newer model. But i went in my mates 1.4 saxo the other day and it felt like it had a lot more pull then the corsa. So im liking them even though it would be about £300 more. Which one is the better car in your opinions. Which is faster aswell? Cheers

The 1.4 saxo has the same engine as the 1.4 306/xsara.

Only 75hp, and be prepared to spend money on headgaskets, gearboxes, clutches.
Also the saxo pedals are dangeriously close together.

Avoid.

look at the 1.25 fez, better car than both combined, same power as the 1.4 saxo too.

however, try for the VTR first :)

Did you drive the saxo?

My sister had a 1.4 furio and I hated driving it, the pedals are very cramped and it felt like I couldn't get my foot on the clutch properly.

Nothing wrong with a corsa as a first car at all, cheap to run and very reliable. I would take one over a saxo, the pedals are downright dangerous.

My girlfriend has a P reg Corsa, we drove it to skeggy in the summer. We had to pull over every so often because it kept overheating. By the time we got to a car park near the beach, we realised that the water had boiled over, dislodged the cap, and was trailing behind us. We were at the beach though, so it was all fine.

By the end of the day we had to convince some nice people in a bar to lend us a big plastic jerry-can-type thing full of water, and topped the engine up every time we could smell burning. The whole 200 miles home.

This has put me off Corsas.

Anyone who thinks the pedals are "dangerously close" in a Saxo is either a retard or has penguin feet.

Yes, they are closer together than a lot of other cars, but thousands seem to be getting along fine every day. They couldn't be easier to drive either.

And in answer to the OP's question, get the Saxo, even if it is the 1.4, Corsa's are liking driving snails with horrible clutches, even the newer ones.
