N95 8GB users...

Hi, I got a brand new N95 a month or so ago, but havent really used it a lot (just because im not keen on it lol), It has the nokia maps and subscription bought sat nav installed, but it's kinda awkward to get it started, let me explain

When you initially load the nokia maps, then search for an address and select the option to navigate there, it will then try and find the GPS signals. Now my only other experience of sat nav is with a Normal Tom Tom, which takes 60 seconds or so on initial warm up to gather the satelites, but with the N95 there is just no guarantee it will find a signal at all it will just sit there and sometimes pick up a signal in 5 mins (shortest period ive found so far) or just not pick up a signal what so ever...

Is this a normal trait of the n95 8gb or is mine faulty? :\

Are you trying to do this inside? My N95 picks up a satellite fix pretty quickly, within a minute easily.

Make sure you have the slide open and your hand is not covering the bottom of the keypad as the GPS is behind it. If your inside or your car has a heated front screen, get outside and get a connection first.
Have you got the latest firmware installed?

no mate, im trying to find the gps outside, not even in a car, just stood in the middle of my garden lol

I use TomTom on my N95 8GB with a Bluetooth GPS reciever. Picks up GPS signal quicker than internal GPS ever has and works very very well.

i use garman mobile xt on mine not a 8gb but the origral 1 and it gets a lock very quickly

Same here, i have the N95 8gb though.

The N95's, both versions, are notorious for having bad GPS.
Your 5minutes is not uncommon.
Some people get far better though.
It entirely depends on where you are, the time of day, if you have a data connection and the last time it 'locked', on how fast it gets a lock.
