Morning all,

I'm just about to move into a new place this weekend and I have been asked to provide the letting agent with:

The last thing we need from you is proof of insurance to cover the landlords goods for accidental damage for a minimum of £2500. This can be taken out in the office with Homelet (this costs £10.88per month) however, if it is taken with any other company please provide us with a policy document.

Surely they can't force us to do this? We've never had to in the past. We're already paying a months rent deposit which I assume is what the deposit is for? Breakages etc.

Anyone had to do similar? We're not getting contents insurance for our stuff let alone his!

Cheers

Is it a furnished property?

I always thought this was optional, I have never had to pay this and I'm in a furnished property at the mo.

what does the tenancy agreement state?

The Homelet would cover your stuff as well as providing the cover for landlord stuff.

For a tenner a month, would be well worth it.

Well it would but we're not really interested. And I don't see why I should have to insure his stuff in the first place!

Never been asked to insure any of the white goods that have been left in the properties that we have let (part furnished, white goods only). But have had to prove that we have contents insurance for our own stuff, which I think is stupid.

His stuff; he should insure it .... simple.

Although, if I were the landlord, I'd charge for it in the rent.

Essentially I think most already do. You pay more for a furnished place around my way, so that accounts for it!
