360 sells 6 million in europe

The Xbox 360 has sold six million units in Europe following a reduction in price for all three SKUs in the region.
"We’re very excited that more consumers in Europe are joining the ever-growing Xbox 360 community," commented Chris Lewis, VP of Microsoft's Xbox business in Europe.
"We’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering.
"We’re supporting this momentum by putting launch-level investment into a European advertising campaign, launching this week, which shows how Xbox 360 is changing the way consumers experience entertainment," he added.
Last Friday, Microsoft reduced the price of the Xbox 360 across Europe. The Arcade unit now retails for GBP 129.99, the Premium machine for GBP 169.99 and the Elite model for GBP 229.99.
As well as titles such as Fable 2 and Lips, Microsoft is also due to launch a new look online interface for the Xbox 360 later this year.

Looks like there price drops are working.
I wonder what Sony will do to fight back.

Still very poor sale considering it was out a lot longer than the other 2, the wii has shot past the 10 mill mark in the EU and sony is catching up quickly.

Is that 6 million in total or since the price drop? I have no idea when the price drop occured btw.

I would also like to ask whether anyone knows if failed 360 units are included in that number? I imagine all of the people who took it back to the store for a replacement in the 1st year warranty counted as two sales.

6 million this early on is impressive either way, their pricing cannot be faulted.

Well everyone fell for the Wii Hype and still are and well I dont think I have met many people in the UK who hate Sony.

Still the 360 is doing well and I'm proud to have got one at launch....only to 3 red lights 2 hours into it

The battle of the numbers continues today as European VP of strategic marketing for interactive entertainment at Microsoft EMEA (say that three times fast) David Gosen let it be known that the Xbox 360 has sold more than 5 million units in Europe, "well over" 5 million in fact. He also puts a stop to Sony's shenanigans -- assuming his word is better than Sony's anyway -- by noting that the Xbox 360 is actually "at least, if not more than, three quarters of a million ahead of PS3." Gosen also takes issue with analysts' claims that 360 sales have slowed in Europe saying, "If we look at the momentum in the business in the last few months, the trajectory has changed significantly," adding that analysts should "check their numbers."

I know 3 people that have done this to replace faultly boxes. So if i know 3 out of the 5 360 owners i know in real life than i would guess there is quite a high % of replacement 360's sold.

6 million aint to bad at all judging the first Xbox sold about 8 million in Europe/Others in its lifetime.

Well the xbox was only out for 4 year, the 360 been about for nearly 3 now.

I still don't think its built any more momentum from the last one.

I think Sony is quite willing to let Microsoft "do its own thing". They know they are going to keep the PS3 going for 10 years by which point the 360 will be long gone. I think it is like the tortoise [Sony] and the hare [MS].

Except that once the tortoise catches the hare, the greyhound gets to finish the race for microsoft. I'm not falling for the Sony line of not replacing the PS3 for 10 years. They will bring out the next gen well before they stop making the ps3.
