Been out of the loop for a bit.

Is the best way of folding a couple of Q6600s running multiple instances of FAH504 consoles?

Also, What is the best way of running FAH on my 8800GTX? Is this client based?

ta

The windows SMP client is the easiest setup for a Q6600, with the enhanced core it can give good PPD. More ppd is available if you use the linux SMP client but is harder to set up if you run windows.
I'm not sure about the latest GPU clients.

No, it's the worst. The non-system tray GPU client is really easy to set up. If you want to dedicate a PC to folding and it doesn't have a fast graphics card then have a look at diskless F@H. Fill in the boxes, download the ISO and burn it to a CD, shove it and a blank USB stick into the PC then boot it.

You might be back just in time to hold onto your position :D

4.8 days at current production ;)

I see that, and I can't let that happen :) What GPU client are you running?

Things have changed then, I'm sure it used to be better running the the console version rather than the GUI client as the console ran as a low priority service..

I personally prefer the sys tray GPU client myself since I like the option of pausing an active WU when I want to game and then un-pause it without having to wait for the client to fire back up.

If you want to get some big points from that Q6600, get a couple of virtual machines running linux and use the SMP client on each machine. With my Quad at 3.4Ghz I can pull 6000PPD from my Q6600.

Also if you want to get the maximum PPD from the GPU, grab a program called set priority and give the GPU client above normal priority.

Running Sys tray GPU client on a 9800 GTX because it's convienient to quit it when I want to fire up a game.

Two VM's on the Q9450 at 3.4GHz.

Using a program called Process Lasso to keep the GPU client at normal priority as I dont think SetPriority works on 64bit?

Process Lasso: http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.php
If you use it make sure you disable the out of control lasso feature because the program is designed to keep processes in check, to stop the system becomming unresponsive if a proces goes rouge.

Having a few stability issues with VM1 at the moment, though how one VM can crash and the other run for 6 days straight I don't know lol.

Works for me :) Doesn't hold presets on XP though :(

Know how you feel about the VM though. One of mine is OK, the other one bricks its self every few hours.

Just binned VM1 it's just not worth it, it's not making it's deadlines because I can't babysit it.

Gonna give JeOS a try as per Garps recommendation will let you know how it goes :)

That JeOS thing looks interesting. Only problem is that I can't seem to see a 64-bit version of it and Linux SMP needs a 64-bit machine. Let me know if you get it going!

Given up on JeOS, didn't get to installing Fah it was just generally being a bit of a pain.
There is a 64bit version in the works though I do believe.

Going with Ubuntu Server edition now as it only needs 128mb of ram and 1GB of disk space minimum so a darnsight smaller than desktop edition :)

Hopefully the server version will be more stable due to it's more minimalist nature, will let you know if its good.

I tried JeOS earlier. Won't work without a 64-bit version. It's very, very minimal - had to install wget in order to download F@H. Ubuntu Server is what I currently use - works pretty well.

Yes JeOS is very minimalist but ideal for a folding VM as it frees up hard disk and ram for your host. Just a shame that there are no 64 bit version yet. I think it'll be great when there's a 64bit version.

I'm hoping the server edition is better, because the desktop client was just crashing every few hours as Senture has experienced.

Well Ubuntu Server seemed to work for a few days, I mean I've had two VM's working for 6 days straight, but one of them crashed today and now I've restarted them both the other one seems to have frozen
