If you could choose one old game, that you would like to be brought up to date (with regards to graphics, physics etc. etc.), while keeping the gameplay and everything else the same, what would it be?

Personally I would LOVE to see the original Unreal in one of the new engines. The game was so leagues ahead of anything else when it came out, and I remember being awe inspired by some of the level design, also the game was huge!

So then what would you like to see brought up to date?

Unreal is a good choice, i would also like to see (in no particular order):

Deus Ex
Final Fantasy VII (i may actually get my wish with this one)
Fallout (with the classic gameplay, not this fallout 3 malarky)
Dungeon Keeper
C&C Red Alert: 1
Starcraft (Yet again, could be getting my wish)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Any of the Xcom series

There's loads more, just can't think of em off the top of my head.

Gonna be obvious here:

Final Fantasy VII

As long as the feel is kept exactly the same. It wouldn't be though: todays Square Enix is a pale shadow of Squaresoft...

i was expecting the first reply to be final fantasty 7.

Thats my pick btw best game have ever EVER played i would do anything to see and EXACT replica of FF7 but with better graphics. I dont want no voice overs no change to the combat system no extra plot lines or any of the crap.
Same game better graphics :D

Planetside!

And there were tons of rumors about an FFVII PS3 remake after it was used as a PS3 tech demo. At the time, Square said:
"Since the Final Fantasy VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this.

That wasn't a denial, they just said nothing. Its not likely, though.

Agree with Unreal :) But they would have to keep the original soundtrack and / or revamp it at least.

I would love to see an up to date version of System Shock. Although nothing will beat the original, it still scares the crapola out of me, even with the dated graphics

King-Pin still baffles me why there was never a second one....

Saw this at a local game store for £1!!!!! What a brilliant game, awesome soundtrack (Cypress Hill rock), good graphics (although every one looked like they were made of jelly) and a story that had me hooked for a very long time. The mp was also pretty darn good.

Other games i'd love to see on new engines:

Descent - We really don't have enough (any!) good 360 degree shooter games any more, I can't remember the last time I used my Joystick, and that is a crying shame. Can you imagine some of the tunnel/cavern designs that could be produced on modern PC's? I drool at the thought.

Following on from that, I got thinking about:

Terminal Velocity - Again, we don't have any fast paced arcade style flying shooters on PC any more. I'd love to be able to blast around a huge map gunning down swarms of enemies again. *sigh*

That wasn't a denial, they just said nothing. Its not likely, though.

See, the thing is, square-enix have built a multi-platform engine called the white engine. At present they are using it to release FFXIII for the PS3 and 360, but i see no reason why they aren't quietly producing a remake of FFVII using the same engine for all major platforms (the white engine supports the PC too) which will be released as their next big title. Everyone knows a FFVII remake is incredibly sought after, so it wouldn't come as a surprise in the slightest.

Indeed, after the popularity of the whole series of FFVII spinoffs, hype for the game is still high. And maybe they could finish it this time. (This guy are sick!)

But the problem is how they do it. No matter what they do, they would annoy people. Keep it exactly the same, just with better graphics and re-recorded audio? They get accused of milking the cash cow. Update the battle system, enhance the plot, and it angers the purists. It won't be an easy task by any means.

Descent, the original as was with updated GFX.

Edit: Actually I'd like to add in a full 3d cockpit and TrackIR support too, that would indeed rock.

tbh id rather them just milk the cash cow. I would be more happy with that !
Rumors have been and will be rife until square annouce it. Personally I think a secret released would just be insane. People will go crazy.
By secret release i mean dont tell anyone then one day it just shows up in shops (high street not Eshops) I mean if i walked into a shop to see FF7 on the shelves i would most likely fall flat on my face.
Just talking about FF7 makes me wanna play it all over again :)
