FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

Any immersion this game might have had could be lost with this.

its true, whats the point in respawning enemies?? i always like to clear a area out then go exploring in the buildings for war booty and things. what are you supposed to do when you come to a encampment?? no point in fighting if the enemies are going to respawn, if theres a objective in the encampment it must be get in get out which is trash

was looking forward to this, not so much now.

hopefully the respawns will be subtle, ie, not like GTA

think about it, it might get boring if you kill everyone for 5 square km's, knowing you can't bump into anyone else!

looking forward to this, hope it's on steam

aye from what ive heard the respawn rates are not quick. Its more like you go to one camp clear out. Go to the next one clear out again if you go back to that first camp you visited it will have respawned. Which tbh is kind of fair.
The game is meant to be free roaming. So if you was to kill everything on the map the place would feel rather deserted.

Still cant wait for the game :D

Respawning CAN work if done carefully. Two major problems with respawning (in certain games):

1. Entities spawn within your field of vision, crippling any immersion and realism experienced up until that point.

2. Entities spawn too frequently and / or too close to the player, causing immense frustration and, as mentioned above, lack of immersion and realism.

Now, I don't mind respawning as long as it's implemented to keep the game world active and if it actually makes sense. For example, leaving an enemy camp for a while and returning later to find reinforcements have arrived (respawned enemies) or new patrols which, if the player has any imagination at all, can be thought of as troops responding to the recent events at that particular camp.

If the respawning was a big issue, I trust PC Gamer / PC Zone to highlight it in their reviews. As I said before, I believe respawning CAN work if executed with care. I guess time will tell. I'm 99.9% that the respawning component will be fully adjustable, in game or within a configuration fire, so it's no big deal either way (hopefully) :)

Im just playing through Stalker, superb game.

There are groups of mobs that respawn in certain zones but because of the way its done i dont mind.

Hope its similar to that.

Far Cry 2 was designed on PC and ported to the consoles. So I expect it's pretty well optimised for the PC. ;) I think I'll be buying this on the 360, even though I hate first person shooters with a pad. My PC spec isn't even worth trying it on...

I wasn't looking forward to this until recently, but it looks damn good.

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd post some more interesting info from the PC Gamer review.

Enjoy!

"There's nothing to break your absorption. No barrier to concentration. No flipping to a map screen to see where you are - here the map is a physical item held like a gun. If you want to work out where you're going, you'll have to pull it out while driving - glancing down at your lap like a lost tourist."

"...some will feel frustrated that the AI baddies respawn after you've taken them down. Checkpoints are refilled with men perhaps a little too quickly. It frustrated me, too, but I stopped caring after the first couple of hours. Some will feel frustrated at the repetition: every mission boils down to killing a lot of men in a single area. Again, that frustrated me to begin with. But again, I stopped caring after the first couple of hours. Because make no mistake, this is a superb game. At its core is combat that works. It is consistently surprising. Consistently hilarious."

"Before the game is out, developers will release a benchmarking tool that will let you see how the game will look, and what framerate you'll get."

"Some will simply reject this game because it's hooked up to Massive's in-game ads system, where roadside billboards advertise real-world products. As I was playing before release, the tech wasn't hooked up. I worry that ads insensitive to the setting will break the spell."

"... it is extraordinarily beautiful. Let's not kid about here; given the right hardware, this is an astonishingly good-looking game. Remember that bit at the start of Oblivion, when you escape the sewers, and the view just blows you away? Far Cry 2 does that every 15 minutes or so."

I think that will do for now :) I wasn't excited about this game at all, until now!

That sounds like a really good idea. It will make my mind up if I should get this on PC or the consoles.

I have great hope's for this game and have had it on pre-orders for a while now. Let's hope it lives up to all their promises.
Has this game got a multiplayer aspect? Would be interesting to see how it plays with real people in a sandbox rather than ai bots:)

in game ads...

hope they're not like the CS 1.6 ones :p

things like coke can vending machines in games would be cool, like realistic ads, not sure about billboards in deepest africa though :p

I mean, coming from Warhead, this looks so incredibly boring.

Take the trailer "blowout_night". 4 minutes and 15 seconds of absolute tedium. Sneaking around but not really doing anything. Killing 3 people, swimming about. Yawn.

Can't believe how dated the graphics look either, really shocked.
